.AVIATION...

Other than a brief flurry near DTW to start the evening, snow has
ended for the night ahead of a weak cold front still to move through
Lower MI. Weak southerly wind ahead of the boundary makes tracking
flight conditions problematic through Monday morning with a wide
range of ceiling conditions possible along with some fog potential as
well. The general trend is for a stalled MVFR cloud pattern and some
breaks in VFR coverage allowing some open sky and fog development
leading up to sunrise. It is a complex yet loosely driven pattern
that will require some intermediate as the latest ceiling and
visibility trends materialize. Any IFR coverage by sunrise gradually
lifts to broken MVFR that breaks up during Monday afternoon as dry
NE wind develops ahead of the next low pressure system.

For DTW... A wide range of ceiling and visibility conditions are
possible during the night into Monday morning. Borderline MVFR/VFR
ceiling this evening tends to break up late tonight with some IFR
fog possible around sunrise. IFR stratus instead of fog is also in
play in a weather pattern with low predictability through Monday
morning.

DISCUSSION...

Fleeting window for light snow production late this afternoon as
ongoing modest isentropic ascent wanes with the eastward release of
the elevated warm frontal slope. Recent radar trends would suggest
simply some minor additional accumulation possible, mainly northeast
of the I-75 corridor. A veering/anticyclonic low level flow then
establishes deeper layer stability for tonight. Passage of a weak
surface trough marking this wind shift may afford or maintain some
degree of stratus, but lack of moisture depth or meaningful thermal
advection supports dry conditions. Dry and stable easterly flow then
defines the Monday period under subtle upper height rises. Resident
thermal profile characterized as right at seasonable levels - highs
arriving near the freezing mark.

Southern stream shortwave fixated at the entrance region of a 130
knot upper jet forecast to shear northeast over the next 48 hours -
the elongating height fall center/shear axis arriving in vicinity of
lake Michigan by Monday night. Deep layer moisture transport will
emerge within the strengthening southwest flow immediately
downstream. Streamline analysis would suggest the greater moisture
advection will tend to remain across the Ohio valley. However, a
period of meaningful moist isentropic ascent anchored along an
inbound 800-700 mb frontal zone on track to expand northward across
southeast Michigan throughout the Monday night/Tuesday morning
period. Widespread accumulating snowfall this period up through at
least the I-69 corridor. The moist ascent will work to offset a
somewhat underwhelming thermal profile characterized by a moist
layer that resides at temperatures warmer than -7C. This will
present a fairly standard if not slightly below average snow to
liquid ratio - generally between 9 and 11:1. This projects as a
couple inches of accumulation during this initial window, before
encroaching mid level dry slot compromises the moisture quality and
subsequent snowfall rate and coverage.

Governing upper wave will gradually shear across the area throughout
the Tuesday period. Attendant mid level deformation acting on the
lingering, albeit weakening elevated frontal zone will maintain the
potential for light snow production during the daylight period. A
very dry airmass maintained just north of the system dynamics
precludes any concern for a lake contribution off lake Huron despite
the northeast flow. Additional accumulation in the vicinity of an
inch looks reasonable. Opportunity for some light amounts of
accumulation over the Saginaw valley and northern thumb possible
this period, but dictated by the ultimate frontal position and
northern pivot point of the developing deformation. Any advisory
headline decisions, if any, will be deferred with onset of
accumulating snow still well outside 24 hours.

Conditions through the mid-late week period will remain defined by
behavior of an intermittently energetic flow of Pacific origin.
Southern expanse of Canadian high pressure in place Wednesday
ensures a return to dry and stable conditions. Subtle period of cold
air advection nudges daytime readings just on the cooler side of
average. Trailing shortwave energy will migrate across the east-
central conus during this time. Upper jet forcing lacks to suggest a
greater mid level response locally, with better height falls tending
to hold south. Building heights in the wake of this trough then
offers a modest warming trend to finish work week.

MARINE...

Weak high pressure over Lower Michigan will lead to light and
variable winds tonight over the Central Great Lakes.

Easterly winds will develop on Monday, ahead of low pressure coming
out of the southern Plains and high pressure building into Ontario.
As the low moves into the Ohio Valley Monday evening and night,
easterly winds will likely gust aob 25 knots over lake Erie, and
Lake St. Clair. As the low continues north, northeast winds over
Lake Huron will also likely reach around 25 knots on Tuesday. The
prolonged onshore flow should lead to waves aoa 4 feet
impacting the nearshore waters, and small craft advisories will
likely be issued with the next forecast schedule, at least for Lake
Erie to start. In addition to the increased wind and waves, snow
will overspread the region from south to north Monday evening into
Tuesday, with visibilities reaching 1 mile or less at times.

Northeast winds look to persist even into Wednesday, but expected to
be aob 15 knots during the day, before increasing Wednesday night as
rapidly deepening low pressure exits the southeastern United States
and moves off the Coast. Thus, a very long small craft advisory may
be needed for Lake Huron, as waves look to remain elevated through
the end of the work.
