Summary: dry conditions continue through Tuesday night before
increasing chances of showers, and maybe a thunderstorm or two,
moves across the southern portions of our forecast area.
Temperatures will fall to below-average values for the latter half
of the week. Some snow may fall for Friday into Saturday, but no
accumulation is expected.

High pressure ridging will remain in place across the Northland
through much of the day Tuesday, keeping conditions mostly clear and
dry. Warmer than normal temperatures will continue Tuesday, with
highs in the middle 50s over far north-central Minnesota to the
upper 60s across northwest Wisconsin and adjoining areas of
Minnesota. A dry cold front will sag southward Tuesday across
northeast Minnesota, but the only impact will be increasing cloud
cover. The cooler air associated with that front will progress
southward across the rest of the region.

Attention then turns to Wednesday as a nearly vertically-stacked
area of low pressure makes its way towards the Northland. Model
guidance is in very good agreement that the track of the surface low
will remain just to our south, putting the most favorable area of
deformation/frontogenetical forcing along our southern areas.
Instability will be very modest along the baroclinic zone of the
aforementioned front, generally around a few hundred to 500 J/kg of
most-unstable CAPE, so a thunderstorm or two can't be ruled out.
Rainfall amounts have increased slightly with this forecast package,
with most locations seeing between one-quarter and one-half of an
inch in total, with some isolated higher amounts possible.
Precipitation should wind down sometime Wednesday night into
Thursday.

Dry conditions will return for Thursday, and generally continue
through the upcoming weekend. We did increase the PoPs for the
Friday/Friday night time frame across our northeastern areas due to
a longwave upper-level trough setting up across the northern CONUS.
Cyclonic flow/cold air advection will develop, which should be able
to help squeeze out some precipitation. The GFS sounding shows a
saturated layer of air within the dendritic snow growth zone, so
it's possible we could see our first snowfall of the season for some
areas later this week. However, ground temperatures should be too
warm for anything to really accumulate. Much cooler temperatures are
expected for Thursday through Saturday, with high temperatures in
the lower to middle 40s, and overnight lows in the upper 20s to
lower 30s.

Mostly VFR conditions through the TAF period. A LLJ moving over the
region will bring the chance for LLWS to INL, HIB, and DLH early
this morning. Light south winds will switch to the northwest
throughout the day as a cold front moves across the region from
northwest to southeast. Some MVFR and IFR ceilings are possible with
this front, but will only affect INL and HIB Tuesday afternoon and
evening. Some gusty northwest winds are possible at INL, HIB, and
DLH as the front passes through tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure remains settled across the
region. Winds will be east to northeasterly through the evening

Hazardous marine conditions are expected to begin Tuesday night,
lasting through the day Wednesday as an area of low pressure
intensifies and makes its way towards western Lake Superior. Winds
will turn more northeasterly and strengthen, resulting in
building waves across the South Shore. Winds between 15 to 25
knots, with gusts around 25 to 35 knots, are expected as well.
Wave heights of 4 to 8 feet are expected Wednesday along the
South Shore. Small Craft Advisories will likely be needed
Wednesday due to these higher winds and waves. There is a potential
for gale-force winds during the daylight hours Wednesday.

and the Nearshore waters of western Lake Superior.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Strong northeasterly winds increase tonight ahead of an
approaching low pressure system. Additionally, higher waves will
also be possible. A Small Craft Advisory may be needed along the
South Shore and the head of the Lake.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

Strong winds across the Lake are expected to linger through
Wednesday night. As the winds taper off Thursday, higher wave
heights will persist through the early portions of Thursday across
the South Shore. Small Craft Advisories may be extended through
this timeframe.
