.DISCUSSION...(Today through Monday)
Issued at 557 AM CDT Tue Sep 21 2021

Summary: Windy conditions along the North Shore continue this
morning. A dry forecast is in store for the next few days. There
will be a chance for some frost tonight. There are a few chances
for precipitation this weekend before the forecast becomes dry
once again.

It is quite gusty along portions of the North Shore this morning due
to strong post frontal katabatic winds. A wind advisory is in effect
for the southern portion of Cook county until 6 AM this morning.
These winds should decrease throughout the morning as the low
pressure system moves off to the east and pressure gradients relax.
Skies will clear this morning as the system departs, but the upper
level trough will linger and cause diurnal cumulus to develop across
portions of northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.

As the trough progresses east and a ridge replaces it, quiet and dry
weather is expected for Wednesday and Thursday. Clear skies both
nights will cause significant radiational cooling and bring low
temperatures in the 30s. A frost advisory is in effect tonight as
temperatures in the low 30s.

The next chance for precipitation will be Friday afternoon and
evening. A strong upper level low will move southeast from Canada
into the upper Midwest and bring light rain showers and cooler
temperatures to the area. Those cooler temperatures will carry
through Saturday before a ridge advects warmer air to the region
Sunday night into Monday. Another shortwave trough could move
through Monday afternoon and evening, but uncertainty remains high
to do discrepancies between the global models.

A system moving through the Northland continues to move east out
of the area. Winds are expected to remain gusty for the remainder
of tonight at DLH, HIB, and HYR. INL and BRD seem to be west of
the shortwave at this point, and therefore strong gusts have
ceased. An occasional higher gust is possible, though. Chances for
some light rain and drizzle continue throughout tonight, though
our western terminals should remain VFR despite the
precipitation. HYR is expected to remain MVFR for the next few
hours before raising to VFR. BRD may have a chance for some fog
in the early morning hours as skies are starting to clear over the
terminal. Confidence is not high enough to include in the TAF,
however.

Strong northwest winds will continue today as a low pressure
system exits the region. Wind gusts up to 25 kts are possible for
the next couple hours along the shores. A Small Craft Advisories
are in effect for these areas until 7 AM. Wind gusts should
decrease to 15- 20 kts throughout the morning. Winds will turn to
the southwest and become light Wednesday. Waves up to 4 ft near
the Apostle Islands will decrease throughout the morning, and
should remain below 3 ft for the remainder of the next 48 hours.
