Summary...a few flurries are possible late tonight through
Thursday. Light lake effect snow along the snow belt of the south
shore of Lake Superior Thursday. Dry Thursday night through
Saturday. Next chance of precipitation Sunday and Monday.
An area of low pressure will move through south central Canada
tonight and Wednesday, reaching Hudson Bay on Thursday. This low
will move a cold front through the Northland by Wednesday
afternoon. A dry atmosphere in place ahead of the front will
make it difficult for any precipitation that forms from reaching
the ground tonight. As the atmosphere moistens up, some flurries
or light snow will reach the ground Wednesday, along and north of
the Iron Range. No accumulation is expected. Colder air begins to
work across the area Wednesday night and Thursday. Some additional
light snow or flurries are possible. Deep moisture is lacking, so
little accumulation is expected. The exception will be along the
Bayfield peninsula east to the Gogebic Range. Some light lake
effect snow is possible with a somewhat favorable fetch on a west
northwest wind. The limiting factor to good accumulations will be
weak warm to neutral temperature advection in the 1000-900mb
layer, which is the layer of air just off the surface. If this
materializes, less than one inch of accumulation is possible. If
not, 1 to 2 inches may occur.
High pressure moves over the Northland Thursday night and Friday.
By Friday afternoon, the high moves off to the east allowing a
warm, southerly wind to form. Temps will warm to above normal. A
weak cold front moves across the area Friday night and Saturday.
This will be a dry frontal passage as moisture is sparse. The next
chance of precipitation arrives for Sunday and Monday as an area
of low pressure moves through south central Canada.

MVFR conditions are expected to continue for the evening as the
cold front approaches. VFR conditions follow shortly after the
the cold front passes, but stratus under the northwesterly flow
will return at MVFR heights once again Wednesday morning. Some
light snow around INL is possible in the early afternoon on
Wednesday as a few shortwaves linger over the International
Border. Gusty winds are expected to decrease immediately after the
cold front passes just long enough to switch direction before
increasing again out of the northwest.
