* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 possible.

* WHERE...Scott, Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Stanton, Grant, 
  Haskell, Morton, Stevens and Seward Counties.

* WHEN...From late Friday night through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other 
  sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor 
  plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

* WHAT...Temperatures will likely be just above freezing 6 feet
  above ground where official temperatures are measured. But right
  near the ground (especially in low lying areas) temperatures
  will be a few degrees cooler. Thich could lead to frost
  formation if the air is moist enough. Often on the high plains
  the air is too dry to get a lot of frost.

* WHERE...Ellis, Rush, Hodgeman, Pawnee, Ford, Edwards, Meade 
  and Clark Counties.

* WHEN...From 2 AM to 8 AM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if 
  left uncovered.

The upper level long wave trough will continue to move through the
Central and Northern Plains throughout the short term period with
small pieces of energy moving around it's periphery. One of these
pieces looks to move through the Central Plains this afternoon
bringing an increase in mid to upper level clouds and a slight
chance of rain overnight. Winds at the surface will shift from the
northeast this morning to more of a northerly direction by this
evening. These northerly winds continue through tonight. As for
temperatures, highs today look to only reach into the upper 50s
across west central Kansas to upper 60s across south central
Kansas. Lows tonight are expected to range from the mid 30s across
west central Kansas to mid 40s across south central Kansas.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)

High pressure will be the main feature across the central Plains
through this weekend as the upper level trough moves eastward with
upper level ridging building across the western Untied States.
This area of high pressure will be positioned south and west of
the area through Saturday leading to winds generally from a
northerly direction. Winds then shift the south late weekend into
the early part of next week as the area of high pressure moves
east. Models suggest an upper level low to move trough the
Intermountain West and Northern Plains the early to mid part of
next week. But this feature looks to remain far enough north to
not affect the Central High Plains with precipitation. As for
temperatures, expect another day around 60 degrees Friday before
rebounding into the 70s this weekend into next week.

Warm advection above a low level cool air mass has resulted in
widespread LOW VFR CIGS (BKN035) at KGCK and KDDC. The warm
advection pattern will shut down this evening; but mid to high
level cloud will persist as an upper level disturbance approaches.
Clouds will clear in the wake of this disturbance by 15-18z.
Expect easterly winds to shift to north after 20z. Winds will
increase from the northwest at 12-15 kts with daytime heating
Friday by 15z.
