.DISCUSSION...

A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for all of S TX through 10
AM Friday. Several areas across the coastal Bend and Victoria
Crossroads are reporting visibilities of 1/2SM or lower. Models
show dense fog spreading west overnight, but with some improvement
across the east as winds remain slightly elevated. However, am
expecting dense fog to continue along the coastline due to sea fog
advection. Given that a majority of the CWA will likely have
dense fog at various times overnight, decided to go with a Dense
Fog for the entire CWA. The fog is expected to lift by mid morning
Friday.

AVIATION...

The western sites are remaining VFR while the eastern sites are
currently seeing MVFR and LIFR conditions as fog has begun to
develop. The fog is expected to continue expanding tonight,
resulting in LIFR conditions continuing through most of the night
at ALI and VCT while CRP should remain at IFR or better. Out west,
models are continuing to show periods of dense fog at COT while
LRD remains IFR or better. As winds begin to pick up tomorrow
morning, fog and lowered ceilings should begin to dissipate/clear
out returning sites to VFR. Winds will remain light tonight before
picking up tomorrow morning with gusts up to 26 knots possible,
mainly across the eastern sites.

AVIATION...

Not to sound like a broken record, but tonight's forecast will be
similar to the past few nights. VFR conditions this evening should
deteriorate tonight due to lowered ceilings and reduced
visibilities leading to MVFR/IFR and LIFR conditions across the
region. ALI, VCT and COT could all see IFR conditions tonight
while LRD and CRP shouldn't drop below IFR. With light winds
tonight increasing to moderate levels tomorrow (gusts up to 24
knots), overnight fog/low ceilings should quickly dissipate/clear
out tomorrow morning around 16z.

SHORT TERM (Tonight through Friday Night)...

Not much change to the short term forecast as we continue to be
under the influence of southwesterly flow. Tonight an H5 high over
the Southern Gulf will remain stationary as we head into the
weekend. Meanwhile an H5 low just off the Baja Peninsula will start
to lift across the Desert Southwest. A LLJ will form and move over
South Texas Friday night increasing winds at the surface. Strong
onshore flow will develop resulting dangerous marine conditions and
the strong winds will inhibit fog formation inland.

Temperatures this afternoon have climbed into the mid to upper 80s
out west with some 70s northeast and along the coastal bend. Tonight
expect lows to range in the 60s with another round of dense fog
being likely mainly across the western Brush Country but should mix
out a bit earlier due to winds. Tomorrow will pretty much be a
repeat of today except with winds increasing and becoming breezy in
the afternoon as a tighter gradient and the previously mentioned LLJ
approaches South Texas. Still expecting highs to range in the 80s
with tomorrow's overnight lows again in the 60s to near 70 degrees.

LONG TERM (Saturday through Thursday)...

Conditions over the western Canada and deterministic
output with regard to upper level disturbance across/near the
U.S./Canadian border, continue to remain consistent with a cold air
outbreak east of the Rockies. Continue to expect the front to move
southward across the SRN Plains Saturday, while another upper system
moves eastward across the Rockies/Plains. Although strong upper
forcing expected to be in phase with the cold front as it move
across the CWA, thermodynamic conditions are expected to be
unfavorable for significant convection. In particular, deterministic
output advects much drier air eastward across the CWA Saturday
afternoon in advance of the front, thus precluding convection.
After frontal passage, much colder/drier conditions are expected.
Fire Weather/Red Flag conditions may still occur Sunday afternoon.
Freezing conditions remain likely across much of the CWA Monday
morning, consistent with NBM output. A gradual warming trend is
expected Monday night through Tuesday.

MARINE...

Weak onshore flow today will become weak to moderate overnight.
Patchy dense sea fog may develop once again tonight across the
nearshore waters and bays. Onshore flow will then increase to
moderate Friday then to Strong by late Friday night ahead of an
approaching system Saturday. A Small Craft Advisory will likely
be needed tomorrow due to the strong flow over the waters.
Decreasing onshore flow expected Saturday as an arctic cold front
approaches. Strong offshore flow expected Saturday night/Sunday,
after frontal passage, Gale conditions remain likely given the very
cold airmass. Expect wind speeds to decrease wind Sunday night. Weak
to moderate return flow expected by Monday and continue Tuesday.
