...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Periods of thunderstorms could result in wind gusts up to
  34 knots. Southeast winds 15 to 20 knots with gusts up to 25 
  knots expected.

* WHERE...Bays and Waterways from Port Aransas to Port O'Connor, 
  Coastal waters from Port Aransas to Matagorda Ship Channel out 
  20 NM and Waters from Port Aransas to Matagorda Ship Channel 
  from 20 to 60 NM.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Strong to very strong winds and/or increased seas 
  will result in hazardous marine conditions especially for 
  inexperienced mariners with smaller vessels.

.AVIATION...

MVFR/IFR/LIFR ceilings early this morning, along with isolated
showers. Winds generally weak east over the Coastal Plains to
north near the Rio Grande. Anticipate scattered/numerous/
widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop today. Conditions
will improve from west to east this afternoon/evening, along with
development of west wind over the Brush Country/Rio Grande Plains
and south wind over the Coastal Bend. Expect predominate VFR
tonight, along with light/variable wind.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 436 AM CDT Sat May 1 2021/

SHORT TERM (Today through Sunday)...

Synoptic scale lift (700-300mb q-vector convergence and upper jet
dynamics) associated with an upper level disturbance will move
across the region today. MSAS analyses depict a persistent surface
low/boundary across the CWA. Expect the foregoing to generate
scattered/numerous/widespread convection today. NAM deterministic
run maintains a thermodynamic pattern conducive to efficient and
copious rainfall (expect for somewhat strong 0-6km vertical
shear) at least until 21 UTC today. Heavy rainfall has occurred
over the Coastal Plains early this morning, lowering the FFG
threshold values. Concur with WPC with regard to SLGT risk of
excessive rainfall for the portion of the CWA currently under the
FFA. Will maintain the FFA until 00z Sunday, although conditions
likely to transition to less favorable for heavy rainfall during
the 21-00z period. Concur with SPC of a Marginal risk of severe
with CAPE as the limiting factor. Will maintain the Coastal Flood
Advisory through 18z today, given likelihood that water levels
will reach 2ft during the times of high tide. P-ETSS suggest that
the 2ft threshold will be reached at Bob Hall Pier. Further, Ekman
forcing owing to east wind will contribute to higher water levels.

LONG TERM (Sunday Night through Friday)...

Dry conditions will return Sunday night into Monday before rain
chances once again increase Tuesday as an upper level system
approaches the region. With the passage of a cold front Tuesday,
sufficient moisture and instability is expected to be present which
could lead to the development of scattered showers thunderstorms.
The cold front is expected to move offshore Tuesday night with drier
conditions expected to filter in throughout the remainder of the
extended period.

The long term period begins with warm temperatures reaching up to
102 degrees across the Rio Grande and the Brush Country with all
other areas in the mid to upper 80s. Therefore, SPS conditions for
heat indices will be possible across the Brush Country Monday
afternoon. Behind the weak front, highs are expected to cool into
the 80s Tuesday and Wednesday before warmer temperatures return by
Thursday. Lows will remain mild Monday and Tuesday night with
temperatures in the 70s across the CWA. Temperatures are expected to
drop into the 60s Tuesday night through Friday night after the
frontal passage.

MARINE...

Showers/thunderstorms expected to continue today in response to an
approaching upper level disturbance, with will also contribute to
moderate onshore flow. Conditions will improve from west to east
this evening/tonight, as the upper system moves east. Drier
conditions are expected Sunday into next week with moderate to
strong southerly flow. The southerly flow is expected to become a
weak to moderate onshore flow by Monday afternoon before shifting
to an offshore flow by Tuesday evening behind a frontal passage. A
weak to moderate northwesterly flow is expected Tuesday night and
Wednesday before onshore flow returns Wednesday night into
Thursday. Small Craft Exercise Caution conditions will remain
possible Sunday night through Wednesday with brief periods of
Small Craft Advisory conditions, mainly across the offshore
waters.

At 949 AM CDT, a strong thunderstorm was located 10 miles southwest
of Gilson Groves, or 27 miles south of Carrizo Springs, moving
northeast at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph and half inch hail are possible with this
storm.

This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of northwestern Webb
County.
This includes US Highway 83 between mile markers 668 and 674.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
