.AVIATION...

VFR conditions across S TX tonight are expected to drop to MVFR
levels through 08Z-10Z across the eastern portions of S TX and
later Friday morning 10Z-13Z across the Rio Grande Plains. As for
the potential for fog, most guidance shows VSBYs dropping to MVFR
levels toward early morning Friday, mainly from ALI to VCT.
However, due to saturated soil, increasing dewpoints and drier air
aloft, IFR VSBYs will be possible. One caveat will be clouds
developing/moving across S TX which would hinder fog development,
thus confidence is low. Have gone with a TEMPO IFR VSBY for ALI
where confidence is highest, but kept MVFR VSBYs over VCT and CRP
TAF sites for now.

AVIATION...

VFR through the evening, but with increasing moisture at the lower
levels, will expect MVFR CIGs to develop through the night, first
starting at ALI/CRP/VCT shortly after 06Z, then toward COT/LRD
after 10Z. BR will also be possible, mainly for inland locations
from ALI/VCT where previous rains have fallen. Improvements to VFR
are then expected between 15-18Z. Light and variable winds
overnight will become E-SE through FRI at 5-10 KTs. Some
convection will be possible toward VCT by the afternoon, so have
added at least VCSH by 17Z.

SHORT TERM (Today through Friday)...

What a difference a day makes as some much needed drying was had
over all of the region. One wouldn't expect this to be the case with
an upper trough so close by, but fortunately our region is on the
west/subsidence side of this feature. Even with dewpoints creeping
up to around 70 degrees near the coast, PWATs remain stunted at just
1.1 inches thanks to a dearth of moisture above this shallow layer.
So other than some very patchy fog developing late tonight, quiet
conditions continue.

By Friday morning, models are in good agreement that an upper low
should close off over the western Gulf in the base of our trough.
This low looks to retrograde very slowly throughout the day and in
turn deliver slightly higher PWATs (1.2" to 1.4") to the Victoria
Crossroads and Coastal Plains. With capping being not as
substantial tomorrow and the low inching closer, feel 20-30% PoPs
are on track for these areas with the best chances farthest
northeast. Storm motions are fortunately progged to be swift
enough to the NW to limit heavy rain in any one spot, but any
localized training could lead to small swaths of heavier rain and
more flooding. Highs were kept a bit lower than NBM mainly near
the coast where clouds will be more common.

Lastly, minor coastal flooding is shown by the P-ETSS to be more
marginal during high tide on Friday than in recent days, yet with
swell periods holding around eight seconds this may still tip the
scales in favor of another Coastal Flood Advisory in later
forecasts.

LONG TERM (Friday Night through Wednesday)...

A mid-level over the western Gulf of Mexico will shift north-
northwest over Deep South Texas and the adjacent coast by Saturday
morning. This low will meander over the same aforementioned area
through Sunday before progressing northeast as a shortwave due to a
strong closed low at 250mb moving northeastward into Montana. The
biggest concern at this time is the limited moisture... PWAT values
are expected to remain below 1.5" (near normal) through much of
South Texas with the exception of the Victoria Crossroads. Reduced
PoPs over the western half while focusing the greater PoPs over the
Victoria Crossroads region where moisture is greatest. It's worth
noting that the WPC has the Victoria Crossroads in a MARGINAL risk
for excessive rainfall in their 12Z Excessive Rainfall Outlook.

The persistent onshore flow at the surface and at 850mb will
steadily increase moisture heading into Sunday when PWATs near
1.75". Expect rain coverage to increase Sunday with scattered
showers and thunderstorms; greatest threat will remain over the
eastern half of the CWA. The NAM is the wetter solution with the mid-
level low centering over the CWA instead of diving southward. A
surface coastal trough and mid-level shortwave on Monday will
increase lift support while building PWATs of 1.75" to 2.0" to
induce isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Again, the
greatest coverage will be over the Victoria Crossroads.

Keeping isolated showers and thunderstorms Tuesday as remnants from
a series of mid-level shortwaves pass nearby with moisture remaining
over 1.75". Model discrepancies become apparent beginning Tuesday
heading into the midweek in regards to the progression of a
potential trough disturbance aloft. The GFS is fast with a shortwave
trough developing and passing through Texas by Wednesday, whereas
the ECMWF and CMC maintain southwest flow ridging, never developing
a disturbance. With the aforementioned uncertainty, kept slight
chances over the eastern half on Wednesday.

Through the period, CAPE is not impressive, typically less than 1000
J/kg. But with little to no cap, can't rule out thunderstorms
accompanying showers. Temperatures are expected to remain relatively
consistent with highs between 80-92 east to west Saturday through
Monday, then gradually warming heading into the midweek. Lows will
remain in the low to mid 70s. P-ETSS guidance indicates minor
coastal flooding remaining possible during high tide through Monday
as water levels approach or exceed 2.0 ft MSL.

MARINE...

Weak onshore flow continues this evening through Friday, before
increasing to moderate at times by Friday night. Some showers and
thunderstorms should return to the open and coastal waters on
Friday with the best chances favoring the northern waters. Weak
to moderate onshore flow will strengthen to moderate Saturday
afternoon and persist heading into the midweek. Small Craft
Advisory conditions may develop Saturday night through Monday
morning for the offshore waters due to wave heights exceeding 6
feet. Small Craft Exercise Caution conditions will be in place
through Monday night, then off and on during the midweek.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible Saturday
through Sunday associated with a mid level low pressure system.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will remain possible Sunday
night and Monday.
