.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will briefly move east across the area tonight.
Low pressure will approach the area from the southwest on
Monday, and will move across the area Monday night through
Tuesday. A trough will move through the Ohio Valley Wednesday
night into Thursday. High pressure will build across the area
Friday into Saturday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Observations have generally shown a transition from freezing
drizzle to light snow showers as a pocket of deeper moisture
noted on satellite imagery overspread northern Ohio from west to
east. Raised pops into the 20-50 percent range for the next
couple hours except for far NE Ohio and NW Pennsylvania where
dewpoints remain low and evaporation is playing a role. It is
less clear if we will see drizzle fill back in across the
southern counties as the deeper moisture departs to the east.
If so, the duration of any additional freezing drizzle will be
brief as low level flow shifts to the north overnight and
drier air expands south. The duration of light snow will be
short with no more than a dusting expected.

Previous discussion... A weakening low level trough across
southern OH will continue to bring low chances for precip late
this afternoon into the evening hours. Upstream observation
across IN are starting to show more freezing drizzle, which is
expected due to the loss of ice in the cloud layer. Somewhat
uncertain if this will sneak into the southwest part of the
forecast area, with hi-res guidance showing a gradual weakening
of the low level lift. Maintained slight chance freezing
drizzle/snow for this area into the evening. Conditions will be
cloudy and dry overnight with brief ridging over the area, with
lows dropping into the low to mid 20s for most of the area, with
upper teens across inland portions of NW PA.

Attention turns to the potent low pressure system that will
approach the area from the southwest on Monday. Models have
trended slower with the arrival of the precipitation, and have
adjusted the forecast accordingly. Would not be surprised if we
stayed dry for most of the area through 00Z Tuesday, but have
likely pops ramping up just before this timeframe across the
area. The precip should begin as snow across the area given the
low level thermal profiles, with a transition to freezing
rain/rain depending on how quickly surface T/Tw rises above
freezing as the low lifts into the southern part of the area
by early Tuesday morning. Still a lot of uncertainty with the
timing and evolution of the precip types across any one location
across the forecast area, although have decent confidence that
most areas will see at least a small period of freezing rain and
light ice accumulation. The models are hinting that the area may
be split to the northwest and southeast with the highest QPF
totals, so at this time, do not think there will be much more
than a few hundredths up to a tenth of an inch of ice
accumulation. Perhaps an inch or two of snow can fall before the
warmer air aloft moves north through the area, but the highest
totals will likely be confined to the Toledo area. The amount of
snow may be limited Monday night into early Tuesday morning by
another mid level dry layer that will potentially result in the
loss of ice in the cloud. Surface temperatures/dewpoints will
also be crucial, with a period of time hovering right near
freezing that may persist through much of the night. Given the
later onset of the precip and collaboration with neighboring
office, have opted to hold off on a winter weather advisory at
this time and will allow the next shift to assess and refine the
forecast and headline.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
By Tuesday morning, the low pressure system will be moving northeast
across the Ohio Valley with a fairly pronounced mid-level dry slot
moving  through the area. This will result in a loss of ice in the
cloud, with rain being the primary precipitation type and freezing
rain where surface temperatures are 32 degrees or less (NW OH and NW
PA). Any additional ice accumulations Tuesday morning should be a
hundredth of an inch or less.

As the surface low moves into PA Tuesday afternoon, wrap-around mid-
level moisture increases once again across northern OH, with
increasing cloud ice and a transition back to a rain/snow mix.
Additional snow accumulations will be about a half inch or less
across the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. Some residual
moisture will allow for light snow showers Tuesday night across the
area, but diminish by Wednesday morning as drier air and surface
high pressure arrive.

An upper trough will move east across the Central CONUS on Wednesday
as a surface low develops in the right front entrance region of the
300 mb jet across the Southeast CONUS. Thinking of now is that much
of the area should remain dry from this system as it moves northward
towards the Mid-Atlantic coast. However, can't rule out some snow
showers Wednesday evening and overnight, especially along and south
of the US-30 corridor.

&&

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
By Thursday, a large amplitude upper level ridge begins to build
across the Central CONUS. However, we won't be completely dry during
this period as a mid-level shortwave impulse dives south across
Quebec. Mid-level moisture arrives late Thursday night into Friday
morning across the region, accompanied by a cold air mass (-15
degrees Celsius). This should allow for lake effect snow showers
across the primary and secondary snowbelts with the northwest flow
across Lake Erie Thursday night through Friday morning. By Friday
afternoon, dry air and surface high pressure quickly return, ending
any residual lake effect precipitation.

Saturday should stay fairly dry with surface high pressure and upper
ridging dominating across the region. However, by Sunday, models are
in agreement of an upper trough to move east across the CONUS, which
could lead to another round of mixed precipitation (rain/snow)
during the day Sunday.

&&

.AVIATION /06Z Monday THROUGH Friday/...
Rather messy situation developing over the next 24 hours as low
pressure tracks northeast toward the area. Initially, IFR/LIFR
ceilings will move into the area during this period and become
widespread. A few pockets of low ceilings are being reported
across the west and central areas. Patchy dense fog is trying
to develop across the southwest around Findlay to Marion and
areas southwest. The remaining precipitation from the upper
level disturbance will exit out to the east from the Akron-
Canton area early this morning. There appears to be a delay in
the onset of the main area of precipitation expected for today
as computer models are holding back on the timing. Most areas
should remain dry into the afternoon and possibly evening.
Expecting snow/freezing rain across the northern tier and mainly
freezing rain elsewhere. Snow and freezing rain amounts should
be light at this time. Winds will be gradually increasing to
around 12 knots by this evening as the low pressure approaches
the area.

Outlook...Non-VFR possible through Tuesday. Non-VFR may
continue Tuesday night through Wednesday. Non-VFR possible in
the northeast in lake effect snow Thursday through Friday.

.MARINE...
The Marine period will become more active beginning Monday night as
east to northeasterly flow across the lake increases. East to
northeast winds, 20 to 25 knots, will persist across the lake into
Tuesday morning. Given the elevated winds, waves, and onshore flow,
a Small Craft Advisory will be needed Monday night through at least
Tuesday evening across most of the lake. North to northeast winds
will briefly decrease down to 10 to 15 knots on Wednesday before
increasing to near 20 knots and shifting more northerly on Wednesday
night into Thursday. A Small Craft Advisory may be needed again for
this period across the central basin of the lake.

Will have to monitor the lakeshore flooding threat as well along the
western basin of the lake Monday night into Tuesday with the
elevated east to northeast flow, 20 to 25 knots.
