.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build from the south briefly today before
a low pressure system enters the western Great Lakes this
evening and will move across Lake Erie tonight. Another wave of
low pressure will move through the area Sunday into early
Monday. High pressure will briefly return from the south during
the second half of Monday before another disturbance rolls
through on Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
945 am update...
We made some minor adjustments to the hourly snow POP forecast
now through tonight based on the latest trends on radar and 12z
high res guidance. Radar is showing increasing echos aloft not
reaching the ground...yet. We will continue to see the lower
atmosphere moisten up and light snow becoming likely by this
afternoon into the overnight. Generally 1 to 2 inches of
snowfall is expected over northeast Ohio and NW PA with this

Lake effect snows have largely diminished across NW PA this
morning and have gone ahead and axed the Winter Weather
headlines early. Light snow up to an inch remains possible. Lake
effect clouds persist off Lake Erie from Cleveland to
Millersburg and will continue to slowly erode from the west as
the ridge of high pressure builds from the southwest. This area
of high pressure should allow for a mostly dry forecast today
and some sun may break out across Northwest and North Central
Ohio. Low pressure will then enter from the west and overspread
a shield of precipitation across the forecast area from
northwest to southeast. Early precipitation type may be mixed
with temperatures just above freezing and some low level
temperatures close to the 0C line. However, precipitation type
will change over to snow and most areas will get a coating to an
inch. With some lake enhancement, NE OH/NW PA could get closer
to 2 or 3 inches by Sunday morning. The one forecast challenge
remains the potential for freezing drizzle. Have removed this
from the forecast this morning as trends seem to suggest that
the region will go from snow to just dry, rather than a brief
period of ice loss and light freezing drizzle. This will need to
be further evaluated in later shifts but the best timing for
this would be later Saturday night behind the snow.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Cold front drops through with another brief enhancement of the lake
effect snow shower activity that will persist into the Monday
afternoon time frame. The progressive nature of the pattern should
allow for low level winds to back and end the snow threat fairly
quickly. Warm front immediately follows, tracking west to east late
in the day Monday through Monday night. The forcing, low level f-gen
and isentropic lift on the 285K surface, pushes across the CWA with
light rain/snow transitioning to all snow into the overnight hours
Monday night. Slightly milder into Tuesday in the wake of the warm
front, but still remaining in an active pattern with the next wave
developing over the MN/ON border poised to track southeastward
towards the lower Great Lakes.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Despite a brief warm up to near or slightly above normal
temperatures, the pattern persists with the upper level eastern
CONUS/Great Lakes trough dominant into the long term. Expecting a
wave Wednesday night, another late Thursday, and high pressure
settling in for the end of the week. Could see 50 degrees Friday,
but should drop back below normal for the end of the long term as it
remains difficult to keep 850hPA temperatures above 0C.

.AVIATION /18Z Saturday THROUGH Thursday/...
VFR conditions early this afternoon will quickly drop to
widespread IFR conditions will light snow moving across the
region late this afternoon into tonight. Ceilings will lower as
well as visibilities as the snow moves in from west to east
across the area. 1sm to 2sm light snow and BR will be likely
for all TAF sites except FDY where it may be more of a light
rain snow mix at times. Ceilings will drop between 700 feet and
2000 feet when the light to moderate snow moves through. After a
round of snow this evening, scattered lake effect snow showers
will be impacting TAF sites closer to the Snowbelt by Sunday
morning will IFR to MVFR ceilings and vis drops. Winds will
start out southerly 5 to 10 knots with a gradual shift from the
southwest and eventually from the west by Sunday morning around
10 to 12 knots. Some gust winds up to 20 knots may come in
towards Sunday midday.

Outlook...Non-VFR expected through Monday with lake effect
clouds/snow.
