.SYNOPSIS...
A weak trough of low pressure will move southeast across the area
tonight.  A cold front will move southeast across the region Sunday
followed by a ridge of high pressure Monday. Low pressure will move
northeast out of the Oklahoma Panhandle Monday afternoon and Monday
night and extend a warm front northeast to the Ohio Valley. The
front will become nearly stationary Tuesday as the low moves
northeast to West Virginia by Tuesday evening. A ridge of high
pressure will build east across the area Wednesday and Wednesday
night.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Mostly nuisance snow showers persist over portions of the
forecast area this evening. While flakes are falling, there
appears to be little or no accumulation and have scattered snow
showers tapering to a mostly dry forecast overnight. The lone
area with snow concerns continues to be northern Erie County, PA
where lake effect snow just offshore may try to give a glancing
blow to the area. Still don't believe that accumulations will
amount to more than an inch in this area. Outside of that, made
fairly large modifications to the wind forecast for the
overnight as winds have diminished below the previous forecast.
Have capped most of the winds on land to 15 mph with occasional
gusts of 25 to 30 mph.

Previous Discussion...
A broad upper level trough will persist across the entire Great
Lakes region tonight and then shift east allowing a weak broad ridge
of high pressure to move east over the area Saturday night. An upper
level shortwave trough and associated positive vorticity maxima will
move east through the Great Lakes region this evening and overnight
resulting in a weak surface trough. Some moisture associated with
this feature will slide into the region and therefore will result in
a chance for some light snow shower activity. Expecting about a half
an inch across the area overnight with this feature. A lake effect
snow band extending northeast along the center of Lake Erie into
western New York will persist through the duration of this forecast
period. There is the possibility that as this band wobbles over the
lake that the immediate lakeshore from Lake County northeast could
see an occasional snow shower through the period.  As the trough
slides southeast this evening, the band over the lake may become
disoriented for a period of time and then redevelop after midnight
after the trough passes.  Otherwise, we can expect to see fair
weather over the area late tonight into Saturday. A reinforcing
Arctic cold front will push southeast across the area Sunday
morning. Some light snow associated with upper level positive
vorticity advection and associated moisture will move into the
western portions of the forecast area by late Saturday night. Cold
air advection will continue through the period. Stayed fairly close
to current forecast temperatures.  Wind chill temperatures will drop
to around -4 F across the west but single digits elsewhere tonight
and then single digits the rest of the period.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
A cold front will be moving through the area Sunday, with more
widespread snow showers moving out of the area in the morning and
giving way to some lake effect snow shower chances through Sunday
night. An inch or two of snow is possible across portions of the
snow belt during this period, although the low level flow will back
more southwesterly by Monday, pushing most of the lake effect snow
showers into western NY. Ridging will quickly build across the area
late Sunday night through Monday. Another cold frontal boundary will
settle south towards the area late Monday/Monday night, with a mid
level disturbance moving along the boundary and pushing it into the
area by early Tuesday morning. This will bring widespread snow
showers to the area, and have handled this with high chance pops at
this time. There are still some timing differences among the models
so confidence too low for likely pops in any given timeframe. Highs
Sunday will be in the upper teens to mid 20s, and a degree or two
warmer on Monday. Lows Sunday night will drop into the single digits
across most of the area, but will only fall into the mid teens to
low 20s Monday night.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The aforementioned cold front and mid level disturbance will push
east of the region Tuesday, bringing a steady end to snow shower
chances from west to east across the area into Tuesday night,
outside of lake effect chances ramping up behind the front across
the snow belt and persisting into Wednesday. The coldest arctic air
still resides well north and west of the area during much of the
week, with models continuing to trend warmer and slower with any
arrival of colder arctic air into the weekend, especially as
stronger mid level ridging persist across the southeast CONUS and
western Atlantic. The strong baroclinic zone near the area does put
us in a favorable storm track for the second half of next week, but
overall it continues to trend warmer through much of the week (still
below normal for this time of year.) There's still a ton of model to
model and run to run inconsistency with the handling of arctic air
plunging into the area late next week and next weekend. Tuesday,
high temperatures will be in the low 20s to low 30s. Highs Wednesday
through Friday are currently forecasted to be in the teens, although
the model trends may favor low 20s by the time it's all said and
done.

.AVIATION /00Z Saturday THROUGH Wednesday/...
Conditions are mostly VFR across the region with the only
exception being from brief pockets of MVFR moving through the
region with scattered snow showers. Believe that these showers
and MVFR conditions will impact KCLE, KCAK, and KYNG over the
next few hours before departing to the east. Elsewhere, heavy
lake effect snow over eastern Lake Erie remains moving northeast
into western NY. However, this snow will sag south overnight
and may try to graze the KERI terminal and have some MVFR snow
mentions. Otherwise, the cloud deck seems to be eroding from the
west and aviation conditions should largely remain VFR as lower
clouds disappear. Winds will remain elevated out of the
southwest through the period. Gusts should be no higher than 30
knots, although KERI may try to reach 35 knots over the next
couple of hours. Winds will back around to the south late in the
TAF period and gusts should begin subsiding.

Outlook...Non-VFR possible with widespread snow showers
Saturday night through Tuesday. Non-VFR possible late in the day
Wednesday.

.MARINE...
Southwesterly winds have begun to subside through the central basin,
allowing for sustained winds to fall below Gale Warning.
As a result, a Small Craft Advisory is now in effect for the the
Ohio nearshore zones as winds will remain at 15 to 25 knots through
tomorrow afternoon with waves 4 to 6 feet where waters have opened
up from ice being pushed to the open waters to the northeast A Gale
Warning is still in effect for the PA and NY marine zones, however
with winds trending downward, this may be able to be expired early.
In addition to the above changes, a Freezing Spray Warning has been
issued for portions of the central basin. Winds should remain about
15 knots as the arctic airmass moves across the Great Lakes region.
Although marginal in terms of temperatures above the lake surface,
there will likely be periods of heavy freezing spray across this
area.

The remainder of the headlines stand as is, including the Low Water
Advisory through tonight as water level still remain below the
critical mark. Winds will slowly continue to subside through the day
Saturday and Saturday night before a cold front moves across the
lake late Saturday night through Sunday morning. This will bring
stronger westerly to northwesterly winds across the lake Sunday and
Sunday night. Winds will subside across the lake Monday and Monday
night as a ridge moves overhead, but another cold front will quickly
follow Tuesday with west/northwest winds returning through
Wednesday.
