High pressure will prevail through the weekend. A cold front
will drop south through the region Tuesday and linger through
the end of the week as high pressure remains to the north.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
We certainly won't be anywhere near as cool as last night, as
we're recently averaging about 3-6F warmer than 24 hours ago,
with dew points that are considerably higher. Winds inland will
be light or calm, while they will remain at least as high as
5-10 mph over the coastal corridor, with even some barrier
islands around 15 mph. Under generally clear skies, this will
result in a wide range of min temperatures that will range from
the lower and middle 50s inland to 60-65F along the shoreline,
in the Charleston metro and near the shores of Lake Moultrie.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday: A zonal flow aloft will remain in place as Atlantic
high pressure holds its influence on the region. It will be
another near perfect late Spring day with warm, rain-free
conditions prevailing. H8 temperatures are progged to rise about
4-6C between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon with a
corresponding rise in low- level thicknesses. This coupled with
near full insolation will support highs warming into the mid-
upper 80s with upper 70s/lower 80s closer to the coast where a
fairly robust sea breeze circulation is expected. It could get
rather breezy in the wake of the sea breeze per forecast
soundings with gusts approaching 25 to possibly as high as 30
mph at times. Quiet conditions will linger into Sunday night
ahead of an approaching cold front. The boundary layer is likely
remain coupled for much of the night as low-level wind fields
atop the boundary layer look to remain rather elevated ahead of
the front. This will keep conditions rather warm, especially at
the coast where nocturnal mixing should be the greatest. Lows
will range from the mid 60s inland to the lower 70s at the
beaches and Downtown Charleston.

Monday: The region will remain fully embedded within the warm
sector ahead of an approaching cold front. A pronounced,
southern stream shortwave is forecast to traverse the Deep South
early Monday and push offshore by mid-afternoon as the cold
front begins to slow and backdoor across North Carolina. A band
of convection is expected to approach the western portions of
the forecast area by mid-late morning, but as the shortwave
starts to outrun the convection and DNVA/subsidence begins to
fill in the behind it, this activity is expected to weaken
and/or dissipate as it reaches the I-95 corridor. Instability
does not look overly impressive with only a minor bump in low-
level moisture advection expected, so convection will mostly
likely not be able to overcome the increasingly subsident
environment aloft as the afternoon progresses. Pops have been
trended downward with this forecast cycle given these trends,
ranging from 40% across the Reidsville-Allendale corridor to 20%
at the coast where a pinned sea breeze is likely to occur.
Highs will range from the mid-upper 80s (warmest along the I-95
corridor) to the upper 70s/near 80 at the beaches. The backdoor
front will approach from the north early Tuesday. While the
front is expected to remain well to the north, some isolated
showers could develop across the Charleston Tri-County area
prior to daybreak. Lows will range from the mid 60s inland to
the upper 60/lower 70s at the coast and beaches.

Tuesday: A backdoor cold front will approach from the north
Tuesday. Guidance appears to have slowed down the southward
progression of the front. Given the expected position of the
high well to the northwest and westerly winds are forecast to
prevail ahead of the front, a slower progression of the front
looks plausible. Even so, it does appear the front will
eventually move south to near the Savannah River by afternoon as
enough of the surface high should finally bridge the
southern/central Appalachians for this to occur. The atmosphere
ahead of the front looks to become moderately unstable with NAM
soundings supporting SBCAPE values of 1500-2500 J/kg south of
the wind shift. This unstable atmosphere will support scattered
to perhaps numerous showers/tstms during the afternoon/evening
as well-defined lobes of vorticity embedded in the southern
stream ripple across the warm sector. Pops were increased to
40-60% across much of Southeast Georgia into far southern South
Carolina with 30-40% across the Charleston Tri-County. 0-6km
bulk shear looks to max out around 30-35 kt during this time,
but a few loosely organized convective clusters could still
occur with a few strong to marginally severe tstms. Highs will
range from the upper 70s/near 80 across the Charleston Tri-
County area to the lower-mid 80s across the remainder of
southern South Carolina and Southeast Georgia.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Tuesday Night: The backdoor front will slowly settle/sink
across Southeast Georgia overnight providing a focus for
showers/tstms. Pops will range from the 40-50% during this time,
but rain chances could begin to increase closer to daybreak
Wednesday the west/southwest flow atop the front begins to
strengthen slightly. Lows will range from the mid 50s well
inland adjacent to the CSRA and southern Midlands to the lower
60s across the coastal counties and areas along/south of the
I-16 corridor.

Wednesday and Thursday: The pattern will remain quite unsettled
through the period as a stationary front will be positioned
near or just to the south of the region. The front could serve
as a focus for locally heavy rainfall, but it remains unclear
whether the front and subsequent axis of heaviest rainfall will
setup. The GFS remains the most robust on surface cyclogenesis
occurring just offshore Thursday into Thursday night as a
strong, northern stream shortwave digs across the Ohio Valley.
The operational GFS looks to be an outlier at this time and a
solution closer to the flatter/weaker ECMWF is preferred.
Elevated pops around 50% will be maintained similar to the
latest NBM output, but given the uncertainty this far out on how
the surface pattern will evolve with time, playing a fairly
conservative approach is the way to go. Highs will be below
normal for this time of year due to the presence of convection
and decreased insolation. Highs will range from the mid-upper
60s inland with upper 60s/lower 70s at the coast both days. Lows
both Wednesday night and Thursday night will range from the
lower-mid 50s inland with upper 50s/lower 60s at the coast and
beaches.

Friday and Saturday: With a mean solution closer to the ECMWF
favored, Friday may not be as clean as what the operational GFS
would suggest. Several of the GEFS members keep some degree of
measurable rainfall over the area which is similar to the latest
NBM and ECMWF output. Given these trends, slight chance pops
were introduced into the Friday period with drier conditions
finally returning for Saturday. Highs both days will top out in
the upper 70s/lower 80s with lows Saturday morning ranging from
the lower-mid 50s inland with upper 50/lower 60s at the coast
and beaches.

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
VFR conditions will prevail through 06z Monday. South winds will
become gusty in the afternoon and continue into tonight.
Sustained winds will average 15-18 kt, with gusts around 22-25
kt after 17z.

Extended Aviation Outlook: Gusty winds likely both terminals
Sunday and Monday afternoons with the sea breeze. Scattered to
numerous showers/tstms Tuesday could impact the terminals ahead
of a backdoor cold front. The risk for flight restrictions could
linger into at least Thursday as the front remains stalled near
the region.

.MARINE...
Overnight: High pressure will be situated east-west and far off
the Southeast coast. Winds rounding the high will that start the
overnight from the S and SW will be as high as 15 or 20 kt,
before veering more SW and W at 10 or 15 kt with land breeze
influences late. Seas will be mainly 2 or 3 ft, but with some 4
ft seas on the AMZ350 waters early on.

Sunday and Monday: Southerly flow regime will prevail with
afternoon sea breeze enhancements likely each afternoon near the
land/sea interface and Charleston Harbor. Winds will generally
remain around 15 kt Sunday and Monday, with 15-20 kt in the
Charleston Harbor. Gusts could approach Small Craft Advisory
criteria for a few hours during the mid/late afternoon and an
advisory may need to be considered. Winds could tip into the
15-20 kt range all waters Monday night ahead of a cold front.
Seas will also peak in the 3-5 ft range during this time.

Tuesday through Thursday: A backdoor front will approach from
the north Monday night and sink to the waters Tuesday resulting
in a gradually wind shift to the northeast. Northeast winds will
then prevail into Wednesday with an uptick in speeds to 15-20
kt expected Wednesday night. Northeast winds will continue into
Thursday. Seas could approach 6 ft both Wednesday and Thursday
and a Small Craft Advisory could be needed for some marine legs.

.FIRE WEATHER...
For Sunday afternoon, relative humidity will generally fall to
25-30 percent, with even lower values possible across interior
Georgia. Additionally, south wind gusts will reach 20 to 25 mph,
with lower gusts expected across interior Georgia. Depending on
how these conditions line up, another Fire Danger Statement may
be needed for portions of our area.
