.SYNOPSIS...
A weak backdoor cold front will meander in the vicinity
tonight. The front should lift north as a warm front on Sunday.
A series of storm systems will bring unsettled weather to the
region during for most of the upcoming work week. High pressure
is expected to return to the region by next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
The back door cold front was still meandering near the Savannah
River, and could make it to near the I-16 corridor before
stalling or even lifting back north a bit. Moisture will pool on
both sides of that front overnight, leading to the formation of
stratus build down and/or fog that will cover much of the
forecast counties after 3 or 4 AM. We currently have "patchy"
fog in the forecast, but we will consider increasing coverage if
model trends become more suggestive of such. Otherwise, a jet
max moving through late, along with channeled vorticity could
result in a few showers north of I-26 late.

There has been a fairly noticeable change in air mass behind the
cold front, although the large decline in temperatures from
earlier has diminished. Even so, lows will get down to the
lower and middle 50s everywhere.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday: The stalled backdoor cold front is forecast to lift north
across the region on Sunday. A couple of short term models suggest
that isolated showers may develop near the warm front Sunday
afternoon into the early evening. However, forecast soundings
indicate that a deep inversion centered at H7 will remain across the
forecast area. Based on the thermal profile, the forecast will
feature dry conditions on Sunday. Rising llvl thicknesses in the
wake of the lifting warm front should support high temperatures
reaching the low 80s across SE GA, with low to mid 70s across the
CHS Tri-county.

Sunday night into Monday: Sfc high pressure is expected to build
over the Northeast U.S. Sunday night. A ridge of high pressure is
expected to build SW along the east facing slopes of the
Appalachians, push the front back to the south. Through the rest of
Sunday night into Monday, high pressure will build across the
Carolinas and Georgia. Low temperatures on Monday morning are
forecast to range in the mid to upper 50s. The combination of steady
NE winds, cooler llvl thicknesses, and rounds of cloud cover should
limit heating to the mid 60s across the SC Lowcountry to the mid 70s
across SE GA. A shallow inverted trough over the coastal waters may
provide enough moisture convergence to support isolated to scattered
showers over immediate coast and adjacent waters.

Tuesday: The sfc pattern will remain rather complex. A deep low
pressure system is expected to deepen over the Southern Plains,
resulting in the wedge front to lift north as a warm front. The
center of sfc high pressure should begin the day over the mid-
Atlantic States, sliding east over the western Atlantic through the
rest of the day. It seems reasonable that with the center of the
high shifting over the Atlantic that the warm front will be able to
gain ground north. However, isentropic lift should support a large
rain band over the Foothills and Piedmont, likely reinforcing an in-
situ CAD inland. Based on this pattern, the temperature gradient
across the CWA Tuesday afternoon may be at least 10 degrees. Forcing
should increase on Tuesday afternoon, also, sfc based instability is
expected to increase to around 1000 J/kg by Tuesday afternoon.
Scattered to numerous showers with isolated thunderstorms are
expected.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
A surface low will lift northeast out of the Southern Plains
towards the East Coast mid week. While there are some timing
discrepancies, a trailing cold front will eventually cross the
area on Thursday, likely bringing a line of showers and
thunderstorms with it. High pressure will build in wake of the
front for late week and early next weekend. Cooler and drier
weather is expected.

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
At this point it looks as though VFR conditions will persist.
However, some stratus and/or fog is possible later tonight
mainly across southeast GA due to moisture pooling along the
stalled front.

Extended Aviation Outlook: Flight restrictions are possible
during periods of passing showers and thunderstorms early to
middle of the upcoming week.

.MARINE...
Tonight: There remains enough of a gradient to generate E-NE
winds as high as 15 kt this evening north of the cold front
near the Savannah River. South of the front winds will be E or
SE at around 10 kt or less. Through the night the gradient will
slacken with the front fluctuating about where it is late
Saturday evening, with all speeds to drop to around 10 kt or
less. Seas will average 2-4 ft throughout.

Guidance still indicates that stratus build down will occur,
potentially leading to some fog development. Not yet sold on
this scenario over the ocean, but instead it might impact the
Port of Savannah closer to daybreak.

Sunday through Thursday: Steady SE winds between 5-10 kts with
seas between 2-4 ft is expected across the marine zones on
Sunday. A cold front is expected to surge south of the waters
Sunday night into Monday. In the wake of the front, NE winds
will strengthen with gusts around 25 kts across the Charleston
Co waters, including the CHS Harbor, and possibly AMZ352. In
addition, seas will increase to 3-5 ft, with a few 6 ft possible
across AMZ350 and 374. Small Craft Advisories are possible
Sunday night into Monday. Winds and seas will deteriorate again
on Thursday in advance of the next cold front. Another round of
advisories will be possible.
