.SYNOPSIS...
A wedge of high pressure will persist inland into Monday, while
a stationary front lifts north as a warm front late Monday. Low
pressure in the Gulf of Mexico will move through the Southeast
early Monday night, with a trailing cold front to move through
the local area early Tuesday. High pressure will prevail into
Wednesday, followed by a cold front late Thursday. High
pressure will prevail into the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
The wedge remains in tact with areas of fog and drizzle
prevailing. Shower activity has largely ended, but increasing
isentropic assent closer to daybreak could produce a few showers
or even enhance the drizzle enough to produce a few hundredths.
Maintained 20% pops overnight, but added a mention of drizzle
and fog.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Monday: We finally get a temporary break from the recent unsettled
and wet pattern, as we fall into the region between low pressure
pulling away from the Mid Atlantic region, and the next low pressure
system forming in the northwest Gulf of Mexico with an associated
short wave.

The CAD wedge will be ongoing at that start of the day, with maybe a
few showers or patchy drizzle around, along with considerably low
cloudiness in place. Since moisture is more shallow than recent
days, we have no more than slight chance PoP into the afternoon.

As the surface low in the Gulf lifts into the Florida Panhandle and
southwest Georgia late in the day, it will allow for the stationary
front that is still south of the region to begin to lift north as a
warm front. the biggest question will be in regards to how much
erosion of the wedge occurs with this transition, and thus the
resulting max temperatures. Climatology would suggest that the wedge
will hold on across at least our northwest tier, where we have max
temps no more than the lower to perhaps mid 50s. If the warm front
is able to penetrate into southeast georgia, max temps could achieve
the lower and middle 60s from Savannah south. In all likelihood the
already huge temperature gradient will be even larger than now
forecast.

Monday night: This will be the most challenging time frame of the
short term period, as the surface low continues to deepen as it
passes through north-central Georgia and then into the South
Carolina upstate during the first part of the night. The low makes
it to near the Delmarva and Mid Atlantic region late. The warm front
looks to make it into and through the region as it lifts north
early, then gives way to an upstream cold front that sweeps through
late and is likely offshore before daybreak.

A short wave associated with the surface low comes through in a
dampened state around 00-06Z, embedded within abroad southwest flow
across the area. A 50-60 kt low level jet arrives in tandem during
this time, with a considerable feed of deeper moisture during this
time, as PWat climbs to around 1.5 to 1.75 inches. This is close to
the climatological max for mid February. While there are modest
height falls, there is also the nearby right entrance region of a
130-140 kt upper jet supplying large scale forcing for ascent, along
with its associated upper difluence/divergence.

Along with the stronger wind fields, the shear increases, as models
depict 0-6 km bulk shear values of 60-70 kt. Surface based
instability though is minimal, but could be enough to generate at
least a slight chance of t-storms. Given the potential for storms to
organize given the shear, potentially into a squall line or QLCS,
some of the storms could be strong or even severe. If the boundary
layer is able to destabilize enough, the severe potential would be
higher. Strong to potentially damaging winds would be the most
likely hazard should severe storms occur, along with a non-zero risk
of an isolated tornado.

Given that t-storms would occur during the night time period
(roughly 00Z to 06Z) and the surface low is passing parallel to and
then away from the local area during this time, we don't feel the
risk is high enough to mention in the Hazardous Weather Outlook.

The diurnal temperature curve will be atypical, with temperatures to
rise into the 60s across many areas in wake of the warm front, but
then falls from the west behind the cold front late.

Surface winds will increase given the strength of the low level jet,
but prior to then there could be a low end risk of some fog forming
for a few hours in the early evening, especially if any sea fog is
able to develop.

Tuesday: A quasi-zonal southwest flow will prevail aloft, as the
cold front pulls away early on, and gives way to brief high
pressure. This will finally allow for some solid drying out to occur
after any lingering showers very early on. Insolation will increase
as the day progresses, but given that there is so much standing
water from the recent rainy pattern, much of the sun's energy will
be used to evaporate the wetness. This will limit how warm temps can
get, so we have upper 50s far inland Georgia to the lower and middle
60s most elsewhere, with maybe a few upper 60s in the Charleston tri-
county district.

Good radiational cooling at night allows for min temps to make it
down to the lower and middle 30s many places west of I-95, with
upper 30s to middle 40s east of there.

Wednesday: A coastal trough will form along the old baroclinic zone
to the southeast, before it begins to lift closer to shore late in
the day. Moisture and lift will increase as a result, leading to
skies transitioning from mostly sunny early to mostly cloudy during
the afternoon. there looks to be enough isentropic ascent that
develops, and with the proximity to the Atlantic trough, there
should be at least a slight chance/chance PoPs for the afternoon. We
have 20% chances for the Charleston tri-county to as high as 40-50%
from Savannah south and southwest. Temperatures will depend upon how
quickly clouds increase, but for now we have them several degrees
below climo.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Overnight on Wednesday into Thursday, low pressure from the Gulf of
Mexico will move closer to the region and an associated warm front
will lift across the region, increasing moisture. Another round of
numerous to widespread showers will impact the area. There is some
instability so there will be a chance for thunderstorms. Though,
widespread severe weather is not expected at this time. By late
Thursday into Friday, a cold front will quickly move through the
area. Overall, starting late Wednesday into Friday morning, the area
will remain unsettled. After the passage of the cold front early
Friday, dry air will move into the area. Most of Friday and Saturday
look to be rainfree.

Overnight Wednesday, temperatures will be in the 50s. Highs on
Thursday will be much warmer (low to mid 70s). Thursday night lows
will be in the upper 40s to mid 50s. With the passage of the cold
front on Friday, highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s and we
will see temps in the low 30s to upper 30s on Friday night. Highs on
Saturday will be in the 50s.

.AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
LIFR cigs will remain in place this morning as the wedge remains
fully in tact. Increasing isentropic assent overnight could
produce a few showers, but could also enhance the risk for
drizzle. Areas of fog will persist as well with vsbys being
reduced at time at both KCHS and KSAV. Cigs are poised to remain
below alternate minimums through early to mid afternoon before
possibly improving either to high end IFR or low end MVFR. A
band of showers and possibly a few tstms will cross the
terminals this evening ahead of a cold front. Risk for tstms
looks greatest at KSAV and will include a mention of TSRA there
from 01-04z. Risk is lower at KCHS and will not include a
mention just yet. Rain impacts greatest 23-03z at KCHS. The risk
for low-level wind shear will increase after 00z at the
terminals as low-level jetting intensifies.

Extended Aviation Outlook: Flight restrictions will persist into
early Tuesday. Low clouds and patchy drizzle will linger Monday
until the wedge erodes, then is followed by scattered to numerous
showers and possible TSRA with a cold front Monday night. There
could be a period of LLWS Monday evening until surface winds
increase. VFR will return Tuesday and persist into Wednesday, before
potential flight restrictions return at times Wednesday night into
Thursday night. VFR will prevail Friday.

.MARINE...
Rest of Tonight: Winds have been a little slower to decrease
over the coastal waters. Have kept north-northeast winds of
15-20 kts through about midnight, then expect them to settle
down to 10 to 15 kt, except 5-10 kt in Charleston Harbor. Seas
still expected to average 3-4 ft within 20 nm and 4-5 ft for
the GA waters beyond 20 nm.

Monday and Monday night: A high pressure wedge on Monday will
eventually erode as low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico steadily
deepens as it lifts into the Southeast during the evening, then
reaches the Mid Atlantic region by 12Z Tuesday. A stationary front
that begins the period south of the local waters will transition
into a warm front that pulls north with the surface low, The front
should be at least into our southern waters by nightfall, then
passes through the entire marine area after dark. A trailing cold
front from the surface low then sweeps in late at night.

As is usual, the veering of winds from NE to the E and SE will
likely be slower than the guidance indicates, so we have leaned that
way in the forecast. Eventually winds will clock around with the low
moving north and the passage of the warm front, leading to the
possibility of Small Craft Advisories Monday night, especially on
the AMZ350 and AMZ374 waters. Prior to that happening, there is a
low end chance of some sea fog forming. But given a limited
residence time of the light winds atop the cooler shelf waters, we
have not included mention in the forecast.

In addition, mariners should be prepared for at least widely
scattered t-storms Monday night, some of which could be strong or
even marginally severe. The most likely timing of the t-storms would
be between 8 PM and 3 AM.

Tuesday through Friday: The pattern is quite progressive during this
time, with changes to the local synoptic pattern. Behind a cold
front that moves through early Tuesday, high pressure prevails into
early Wednesday. A coastal trough forms and lifts into the region
late Wednesday and Wednesday night, followed by the next cold front
Thursday night. Continental high pressure then builds from the west
on Friday. Conditions will be close to advisory levels during at
least part of the extended period.
