.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will weaken and move off the east coast tonight
ahead of an approaching cold front. The cold front will move
through the forecast area Sunday and Sunday night. High
pressure will then steadily build into the region through the
middle of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
the warm front associated with low pressure in Missouri and
Illinois is lifting onshore of the immediate area, and should
clear most places by 6 am. Winds will shift to the southeast and
south and increase a little with the passage of the front, along
with an increase in temperatures and dew points. By sunrise
we're looking at temps some 20-25F warmer than it was at the
same time yesterday morning.

Warm air advection and isentropic ascent will strengthen
overnight, especially over the Charleston Tri-County region
just south of where a low level jet develops. With moisture
pooling into the region ahead of the system, isolated light
showers could develop overnight in these 3 counties.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday and Sunday night: An upper low centered over the southern
Great Lakes region will deepen and shift toward the southern
Appalachians through the overnight. As it does, the forecast area
will come under the influence of the right entrance region of a 120
kt 300 mb jet that stretches eastward off the Mid-Atlantic coast. At
the surface, the parent low of the system will move across the Ohio
Valley while a cold front with a weak low developing along it moves
through the forecast area in the late evening to early morning
hours. The upper level divergence associated with the jet aloft,
combined with low-level convergence along the front will act on an
environment marked by precipitable water values peaking in the 1.25-
1.50 inch range (likely at or near the daily max based on the SPC
sounding climatology for 01/00z) to produce widespread significant
rainfall. The main time period for precipitation will be from Sunday
afternoon through the early morning hours, and rain chances are at
100 percent. Forecast rainfall amounts are in the 0.50-1.00 inch
range for southeast South Carolina and 0.50-0.75 of an inch for
southeast Georgia. There remains some potential for thunder, and
overall most model solutions have slightly higher surface-based
instability than they did 24 hours ago. A slight chance of thunder
has been added in mainly along and south of I-16 and the adjacent
coastal waters for Sunday evening. Rain chances decrease quickly
from west to east late Sunday night. Southerly winds will be quite
breezy ahead of the front with frequent gust to 25 mph everywhere,
and gusts to 30-35 mph along the coastal corridor. This is still
below Wind Advisory criteria, but will be notable on areas bridges
and overpasses along the coast.

Monday through Tuesday: The main surface low will become situated
off the New England coast early in the week and steadily deepen.
This will leave the forecast area in the cool wrap around area on
the southeastern periphery. Aloft the upper low will be centered
just north of the area on Monday, before shifting eastward through
Tuesday. The cold air aloft and the presence of fairly impressive
residual moisture will lead to isolated to scattered showers moving
through in the low-level west-northwesterly flow on Monday. The
forecast still features 20-30 percent rain chances, though no
significant rainfall amounts are expected. Monday will be quite cool
and blustery thanks to highs struggling to reach the low 50s, mostly
cloudy skies, and breezy conditions. Temperatures will essentially
be the same for Tuesday with breezy northwesterly flow, but at least
skies will clear in the afternoon hours.

Lake Winds: Winds will strengthen across Lake Moultrie on Sunday
ahead of an approaching cold front. Winds could gust to 25 knots and
a Lake Wind Advisory could be needed. Winds will diminish behind the
system, then likely increase again Monday and Tuesday afternoon.
However, gusts during these periods are expected to fall short of
advisory criteria.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Models start out in good agreement. High pressure over the region
will bring dry conditions Tuesday night through Thursday. By Friday
the models decided to disagree regarding whether a cold front
approaching from the west will bring impacts to our area. Since the
trend for the front has been slower, we only went with low end POPs,
but above normal temperatures.

&&

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
VFR conditions will occur overnight as a warm front lifts
northward and through the terminals. S-SW winds will strengthen
during the daylight hours Sunday, expected to reach 20 kts by
mid morning. Deep forcing and increasing moisture should yield
showers to reach both KSAV and KCHS by early Sunday afternoon.
By sunset or shortly thereafter, rainfall rates should increase
and cloud bases will lower. Conditions are forecast to
deteriorate to MVFR by 23Z, although IFR could very easily also
occur as a band of showers moves through into Sunday night.
There is a small chance of TSRA, especially at KSAV in the
afternoon and evening, but not enough of a risk to include with
the 00Z TAFs.

Extended Aviation Outlook: Low ceilings could persist into
Monday afternoon. Additionally, gusty winds are expected Sunday
afternoon/evening, then again Monday afternoon through Tuesday
afternoon.

.MARINE...
Overnight: High pressure over the waters will weaken as it
moves northeast, getting pushed out by an incoming system to the
west. A warm front shifting over the waters could cause showers
to develop, most likely around sunrise. Easterly winds will
veer out of the south overnight, increasing to 15-20 kt. There
could be some isolated gusts that reach 25 kt briefly; however,
conditions should remain sub Small Craft Advisory criteria.
Seas will build in response increasing to 3-4 ft, and 4-5 ft in
the Charleston County nearshore waters out 20nm as well as the
GA waters from 20-60nm.

Sunday through Thursday: Southerly winds will increase on Sunday
ahead of an approaching cold front. Winds and increasing seas will
support Small Craft Advisories for all marine zones, including
Charleston Harbor, starting Sunday morning. There will also be the
chance for a period of gales in the outer Georgia waters in the
evening hours, so a Gale Watch is in effect there. Once the cold
front shifts offshore overnight, winds will turn west-northwesterly
and then surge again through Monday and continue through Tuesday.
The advisory for Charleston Harbor will come down Sunday evening,
but picking ending times for the other advisories proved quite
tricky. Winds could be below criteria late Sunday night for a period
of time before increasing again Monday and Monday night. Similarly,
another modest surge is expected Tuesday before conditions truly
diminish Wednesday. Opted to run the advisories through the entire
period question, so they all are currently set to end Tuesday
night.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
High astronomical tides combined with onshore winds and
possible freshwater discharge from recent rains, could cause
minor inundation around Charleston during the Sunday morning
high tide. A Coastal Flood Advisory may be needed.
