A cold front approaches Sunday night, crosses the region Monday, then exits across the Maritimes Monday night through Tuesday. Low pressure will move south of the Gulf of Maine Wednesday. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... 1135 AM Update: Using 50 percent of obsvd hrly temp biases from the prev fcst values ovr the last 3 hrs resulted in us raising hi temps across much of the FA by 1 to 2 deg F with fcst hrly temps/dwpts adjusted from 11am sfc obs to 19z, the tm we posted update fcst hi temps. Otherwise, the rest of the near term remains unchgd this update. Prev Disc: High pressure centered over the Mid- Atlantic will move south of the area today, leading to a dry, mostly sunny, and seasonable day. Highs will range from the mid to upper 30s across the north to the lower 40s Downeast. A modest breeze is expected in the morning, with decreasing winds by the afternoon as the ridge axis moves overhead. Increasing cirrus clouds are expected tonight along with strengthening southwest winds aloft as the ridge axis moves to the east. Cloud cover should keep temperatures from cooling significantly with lows ranging from the mid 20s across the north to near 30 along the coast. && .SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... High pressure will exit across the Maritimes Sunday while low pressure intensifies north of the Great Lakes. Generally expect mostly cloudy skies across the region Sunday, though could also have a chance of rain Downeast during the afternoon. The intensifying low tracks to northwest Quebec province Sunday night drawing a cold front toward New England. Precipitation will expand across the region Sunday night, though models have trended slower with the onset time. Across Downeast areas, precipitation will remain in the form of rain Sunday night. Precipitation should begin in the form of light snow across northern areas Sunday night, though rapidly transitions to rain with warmer air being drawn north in advance of the cold front. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. Rain will occur across the region Monday in advance of the cold front. A strong low level jet in advance of the cold front could also bring gusty winds along the Downeast coast Monday. The cold front will exit across the Maritimes Monday night. Rain will taper to showers in the wake of the cold front, then transition to snow showers overnight. Temperatures will be at near normal levels Sunday. Low temperatures will occur early Sunday night then warm overnight. Temperatures will be at above normal levels in advance of the cold front Monday, though temperatures will begin to fall during the afternoon in the wake of the front. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... An upper level trof crosses the region Tuesday, with a closed upper low developing south of the Gulf of Maine later Tuesday which will help support the development of an ocean low southeast of Nova Scotia. High pressure will gradually build toward the region Wednesday, while the upper low captures the ocean low southeast of Nova Scotia. Moisture advecting westward from the Maritimes could bring a slight chance of rain/snow showers to eastern portions of the region Thursday.
