.SYNOPSIS...
Weak upper level low pressure passing west of the region will
spark a few showers and storms this evening into the overnight
hours, otherwise warm to hot weather is expected through Friday
with elevated heat index values. Chances of showers and storms
return for Thursday into Friday with the approach of a cold
front. A few of the storms could trend strong on Thursday.
Behind the front a return to more seasonable late summer weather
is expected for the upcoming weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 302 PM EDT Tuesday...Mainly a persistence forecast over
the next 42 hours with warm to hot weather expected. A weak
ripple in the upper flow will track through southeast Ontario
tonight and across southern Quebec into Wednesday morning. This
feature will spark scattered showers and thunderstorms, most
numerous across northern NY this evening in closer proximity to
better shear and PBL instability. After scattered morning
showers exit northern VT Wednesday morning, another warm to hot
day is expected across the area. Temperatures and dewpoints will
warm a few degrees above today's readings, likely prompting
additional Heat Advisories for most lower elevation sites.
By Wednesday evening another impulse pushing east from the Great
Lakes may spark another round of scattered showers/storms across the
SLV/Dacks which would weaken as it pushes east into VT during the
overnight hours. This threat is a conditional one at this point with
several models showing less coverage. It will remain uncomfortably
warm and humid overnight with lows holding in the 70s.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
As of 302 PM EDT Tuesday...A brief lull between precipitation
will be seen in wake of the shortwave trough moving through the
area during the morning and early afternoon hours across the
North Country. During this break, another sweltering day is on
tap with temperatures in most locations exceeding 90 degrees
with dewpoints ranging from the mid 90s to just shy of 105
degrees. Thursday is shaping up to be the warmest and most humid
day of the week with heat advisories likely needed once again
with the potential for excessive heat across the Champlain
Valley. This heat and humidity will act like fuel to a fire with
instability values climbing to greater than 2500 J/kg Thursday
afternoon. Now, without any kid of triggering mechanism, this
potential energy would be wasted but given the passage of a pre-
frontal trough, mesoscale boundaries such as lake breezes and
orographic components from the Adirondacks, it's shaping up to
be a very interesting afternoon and evening.
Numerical guidance is coming into better agreement with
thunderstorms developing off both the lake breeze from Lake Ontario
and the higher elevations of the Adirondacks. The Q-vector and
frontogenesis parameters are now indicating convergence within the
North Country which only adds to confidence in showers and
thunderstorms developing. With 20-30 knots of 0-6 shear coupled with
our copious instability, it looks like we could see some strong to
severe organized convection. Low level directional shear could yield
isolated supercells that eventually congeal into a multi-cellular
linear system posing a wind threat. PWATs will also be in the 1.75"
to 2.0" range which could produce some heavy rain as these
thunderstorms role through. The storm motion vectors will be around
15 knots so they will be slow to roll through and seeing isolated
rain totals in excess of 1 inch will be possible. These showers and
thunderstorms will shift eastward into New Hampshire Thursday night
with rain likely coming to an end by sunrise on Friday.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 302 PM EDT Tuesday...Friday will be another warm day
across the North Country but the pre- frontal trough that moved
through on Thursday will have scoured out some of the deeper
moisture. High temperatures are still going to be in the mid 80s
to lower 90s but dewpoints will remain in the 60s. This will
keep heat indices below the critial threshold of 95 degrees
needed for a heat advisory. A much welcomed cold front will move
through the region Friday afternoon with showers and
thunderstorms once again expected across the region. The GFS is
showing decent convergence along the frontal boundary so we
could once again see a few strong thunderstorms but doesn't look
to be as problematic as Thursday is shaping up to be. These
storms will exit east once again with rain chances dropping
significant after midnight.
This weekend is shaping up to be some chamber of commerce weather
with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and dewpoints in the 50s.
Plentiful sunshine coupled with light winds will yield very
comfortable and pleastant temperatures for outdoor recreating with
precipitation chances less than 10%. Temperatures creep back up next
week with temperatures by Tuesday afternoon climbing back into the
lowe to mid 80s and dewpoints in the 60s. A nice dry period looks in
store for the North Country with deep layer ridging reigning
supreme. For those curious, the GFS is showing h500 around 595-598
dm for northern New York and Vermont by the middle of next week.

.AVIATION /19Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Through 18Z Wednesday...Mainly VFR through the period with some
exceptions, mainly due to scattered convection/storms. Main
threat of storms to occur in the 21-03Z time frame and generally
affecting KMSS/KSLK (possibly KRUT) terminals where brief
reductions to MVFR/IFR possible along with gusty outflow winds
to 30 kts. Elsewhere remaining mainly dry until after 00Z.
Outside of convection scattered VFR cigs in the 035-060 AGL
range expected through sunset under occasionally gusty southerly
flow of 6-12 kts. After 03Z scattered shower activity traverses
remainder of VT terminals/KPBG though will be weakening in
coverage and intensity overnight. Some brief reductions to MVFR
remain possible. Shower activity exits west to east in the
09-15Z time frame leaving mainly SCT/BKN VFR cigs in the 040-080
AGL range under south/southwest flow of 6-10 kts.
