.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moves NNE off the coast today with rain tapering
off later in the day. High pressure returns by Monday and
continues through the early part of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 355 AM EDT Sunday...

Current surface analysis depicts a cold front well south of the FA
in southern SC and a weak surface low off the coast of Wilmington.
The cold front will continue to push south while the surface low
moves NNE just off the coast through the day today as the 500 mb
trough axis over eastern OH and WV becomes negatively tilted. The
coastal low will continue to throw moisture over the cold air locked
in place by NNE winds. The result will be persistent cloudiness and
cold temps through the day today with high PoPs across the FA (70-
100%) due to stratiform light to moderate rain and drizzle. Rain
will gradually taper off from SW to NE as the coastal low pulls away
later this afternoon into this evening. Rain will linger the longest
over the Northern Neck and MD portion of the Eastern Shore as the
heaviest axis of rain pivots and hangs up in that region. PoPs
decrease in SE VA/NE NC away from this axis of rain. Additional
rainfall of around 0.15-0.5" (highest NE) expected today. With rain
cooled air, persistent cloud cover, and NNE flow, expect highs much
below average today (potentially challenging record low max temps)
in the upper 50s to around 60F for most except lower 60s in far SE
VA/NE NC. Lows tonight will be much cooler due to clearing skies
allowing for some radiational cooling. Lows will range from the
lower 40s NW to the mid 40s for most to the upper 40s to lower 50s E
near the coast.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 355 AM EDT Sunday...

As the low pulls away, cloud cover breaks overnight with partly
cloudy skies north to mostly sunny skies south for Memorial day as
high pressure builds in. Dry weather expected Mon and Tues. Given
the return of sunshine, expect highs to warm into the mid to upper
70s with 80F not out of the question in central VA on Memorial Day.
A little cooler over the Eastern Shore with highs in the low to mid
80s. Lows Mon night in the lower 50s for most (mid to upper 50s near
the coast). Partly cloudy skies continue into Tues with highs in the
low to mid 80s (upper 70s to around 80F over the Eastern Shore).
Lows Tues night in the upper 50s (lower 60s near the coast).

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 355 AM EDT Sunday...

Fairly good model agreement at the start of the long term period
with a trough over the central US and surface high pressure well off
the east coast. Wednesday now looks mostly dry with just a slight
chance of a late day shower/storm over the far south and far western
portions of the area. High temps in the lower 80s and low temps
Wednesday night in the 60s. A warm front will lift north across the
area late Wednesday as a surface low advances from the central US
towards the southern Great Lakes. The upper level trough will slowly
advance eastward for the end of the week and settling over the
eastern US over the weekend. This will result in greater
shower/storm chances for Thursday through Sunday. High temps in the
lower 80s Thursday/Friday, low to mid 80s Saturday, and mid to upper
80s Sunday. Lows Thursday through Sunday night generally in the
60s.

.AVIATION /08Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 145 AM EDT Sunday...

MVFR to IFR conditions across area terminals, with NNE winds 10
to 15 kt across the region behind a cold front. Expect mainly
IFR CIGs through early afternoon before CIGs rise to MVFR and
eventually VFR from west to east this afternoon through this
evening. There is the potential for gusts of 20 to 25 kt through
this afternoon at ORF/ECG/SBY, with periods of rain/dz across
all terminals. Rain will gradually taper off from south to north
late this afternoon into this evening. Any fog at SBY will
likely lift by around 12z.

Outlook: Clearing and VFR conditions return Monday and continue
through the early part of the week.

.MARINE...
As of 750 PM EDT Saturday...

Have added ANZ658 to the SCA headlines as winds currently
gusting 25kt and seas have risen to 5-6 ft this evening.

Strong SCA's to low end gale headlines (across the MD coastal wtrs)
continue tonight into Sun due to strong NE winds behind a cold
front. High surf advisory remains in place along the MD beaches
for 8 ft near shore waves through Sunday morning.

Winds shift to the NW and begin to diminish by midday Sun as
the pressure gradient between departing low pressure and a sfc
high to the north relaxes. Will continue to end the headlines
Sun eve. Conditions improve and become much more benign early
next week as high pressure builds over the area and slides
offshore Tue-Wed.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 750 PM EDT Saturday...

Upgraded to Coastal Flood Warning for areas along the James
River that are still several hrs from high tide. This based on
current trends and with some sites upstream in the lower Bay
having reached moderate flood levels.

Previous Discussion...
Tidal departures continue to quickly rise this evening due
moderately strong NE winds. All of the middle/lower Ches Bay,
James River and Atlantic coast will be in a coastal flood
advisory for tonight's high tide cycle. Could even see a couple
of tide gages (Jamestown/Yorktown/Kiptopeke) near or just
touching moderate flooding. Even Sewells Pt will come close to
moderate tidal flooding threshold.

The high risk for rip currents/rough surf continues through Sun
afternoon for the eastern shore beaches, with a moderate risk
for the southern beaches. All zones can expect a moderate risk
for Monday.
