.SYNOPSIS...
Onshore flow continues today with cooler temperatures. High
pressure remains in control of the local weather through the
weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1015 AM EDT Friday...

Late this morning, high pressure at the sfc and aloft was in
control across the region. Expansive ridge both at the sfc and
aloft will continue to dominate the local weather this aftn,
while low pressure slowly becomes better organized near Bermuda.
Onshore flow will continue this aftn, which will keep temps a
few degrees cooler than what we saw on Thu. Coolest readings
will remain confined to areas near the coast where upper 60s
to mid 70s are forecast. Farther inland, expecting lower to mid
80s with the warmest values generally along and west of the
I-95 corridor.

Flow aloft becomes northerly as the ridge aloft moves slowly to the
west this aftn into the overnight. The sky will be mainly clear
with perhaps a few clouds near the coast. Some patchy fog is
possible across the SE portion of the area. Lows will range
through the 50s.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 345 AM EDT Friday...

Surface flow becomes west and northwest on Saturday as a weak trough
erodes the NE portion of the surface ridge. With the loss of
onshore flow, expecting temps to rise into the upper 80s and low 90s
by Saturday afternoon with continued northerly flow aloft. Model
guidance has backed off on the chance for any precip during the day
on Saturday but a shortwave trough does drop southward late Saturday
into Sunday which could support widely scattered showers across
portions of the area. Will limit PoPs to slight chance given
remaining questions regarding the placement, timing, and strength of
the shortwave aloft.

Continued warm for the remainder of the weekend with overnight lows
in the mid to upper 60s and high temps on Sunday warming into the
low 90s despite some lingering clouds through late morning.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 345 AM EDT Friday...

Flow aloft becomes northwesterly on Monday as the ridge is
suppressed toward the Gulf Coast. Perturbations in the NW flow will
bring at least some chance for showers and thunderstorms to the NW
half of the area on Monday as another backdoor cold front moves
across the region. High temps will be coolest near the coast with
onshore winds, generally in the mid 70s to low 80s with mid 80s to
low 90s inland. Overnight lows fall into the mid to upper 50s and
low 60s.

Dry conditions will prevail through the extended with only a chance
of showers Thurs with a cold front. Otherwise, high pressure remains
in the deep south with any areas of low pressure passing far to the
north of the FA. Highs range from the mid to upper 80s for most
(upper 70s to lower 80s for the Eastern Shore) Tues, mid to upper
90s Wed (potentially breaking record highs in some spots), and upper
80s to lower 90s Thurs. Somewhat cooler on Friday with upper 70s and
low 80s. Lows range from the low to mid 60s Tues night, mid to upper
60s Wed night, and mid 50s to lower 60s Thurs night.

.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 230 PM EDT Friday...

VFR conditions will prevail at the TAF sites this aftn into Sat
aftn, as high pressure sfc/aloft will dominate. Mainly SKC will
continue across the area, with NE or E winds around 10 kt or
less this aftn, becoming light and variable tonight, then
becoming west Sat morning. Some patchy fog is possible for the
eastern terminals late tonight.

Outlook...
High pressure remains in control through the weekend. Mainly VFR
conditions expected except for some isolated showers over NE
areas Sun morning and late Sun night. Better chance for pcpn
across most of the region will come Mon aftn/evening.

.MARINE...
As of 345 AM EDT Friday...

1034mb high pressure was centered near the Gulf of Maine
early this morning, and extended SW toward the Mid-Atlantic coast.
Meanwhile, a weak trough was located off the SC coast, and this
combined with the high to the N resulted in a tighter pressure
gradient along the NC coast. The wind early this morning ranged from
E 5-10kt N, to ENE 10-15kt S. Seas ranged from 3-4ft N, to 4-5ft S.

The high is expected to build over the coast today, and gradually
shift southward tonight. The wind is expected to become light and
sea-breeze dominant by this afternoon for most of the area, and
remain NE 5-10kt S. By tonight, the wind is expected to become S
then SW 5-10kt across the northern portion of the area, and a light
NE wind will become NW for far southern portions of the area. Seas
remain 3-4ft N and 4-5ft S today, and then slowly subside this
evening. The SCA from Cape Charles to the VA/NC border runs through
7 PM this evening, and 10 PM off the Currituck Outer Banks.

A 5-10kt SSW wind is expected Saturday (locally sea-breeze dominant
during the afternoon), and this will gradually become WNW
Saturday night into Sunday. There is a potential for 4-6ft seas
later Saturday through Saturday night into early Sunday due to
low pressure in vicinity of Bermuda. Additional SCAs are
possible for the ocean. A backdoor cold front drops across the
coast late Sunday night into Monday morning bringing the
potential for another round of SCA conditions. High pressure
builds across the area Monday night into Tuesday.

4-5ft and 8-10sec nearly shore normal swell was observed from Cape
Henry south through the Currituck Outer Banks early this morning.
Therefore, the rip risk for the southern beaches has been upgraded
to high for today. The northern beaches remain moderate. At least a
moderate risk of rip currents is expected to continue through the
weekend for all the beaches.
