High pressure shifts offshore later this evening and tonight.
An area of low pressure brings increased clouds and showers
Friday into Friday night. Dry weather returns for Saturday.
Another disturbance approaches the region early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY MORNING/...
As of 750 PM EDT Thursday...

High pressure shifts offshore this evening and tonight with weak
SE flow developing as this occurs. Weak low pressure develops
offshore and well south of the region tonight while a shortwave
approaches the area from the west. As a result, clouds will be
on the increase as we head through the overnight hours. A few
rain showers will be possible across the far SW as we head
closer to daybreak Friday morning. Low temperatures tonight will
generally range from the mid 40s/upper 40s to the lower 50s near
the coast.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 250 PM EDT Thursday...

The combination of the upper trough pivoting across the region
and weak sfc low pressure developing along/just off the NC
coast will result in a mostly cloudy sky with showers developing.
PoPs ramp up across much of the area by late Friday morning into
Friday afternoon. Latest CAMs show some heavier showers or
thunderstorms developing and spreading from west to east through
the afternoon and early evening hours Friday. Not expecting any
severe weather, but would not be shocked to see some gusty winds
and perhaps some small hail Friday afternoon as the upper level
trough pivots across the area. QPF on the order of a quarter to
half an inch, but the potential is there for locally higher
amounts depending on where the heavier showers set up. Rain
tapers off Friday night into Saturday morning (potentially
lingering into early Saturday afternoon across the far NE).
Highs will mainly be in the lower to mid 60s (upper 60s SE) on
Friday, with lows Fri night ranging through the 40s to around
50.

Weak sfc high pressure will rebuild over the se coast for
Saturday, as sfc low lifts ne offshore of the New England coast.
This will yield a mostly sunny, breezy and pleasant day on
Saturday, with high temps ranging from the mid 60s to near 70
(low to mid 60s across the Eastern Shore).

Sfc low pressure slides from the middle MS valley toward the
Ohio valley on Sunday, allowing weak warm front to lift toward
the local area. A weak upper disturbance will move east along
the front, and could bring some sct showers to the northern half
of the local area Sunday afternoon into Sun evening. Slightly
warmer Sunday as the flow becomes southerly across the region.
Highs will range from the upper 60s north to around 80 south.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 250 PM EDT Thursday...

Low pressure and its associated cold front approach/push across
the region during the day on Monday. Maintained chance PoPs
for showers through the period with the possibility for some
thunderstorms (especially SE) Monday afternoon/evening. Highs on
Monday will range from the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Dry weather expected for late Mon night into Tue night, as high
pressure builds in from the N-NW. Still looking at the
potential for an unsettled period as we head into Wednesday and
beyond as low pressure tracks across the deep south and then
eventually near/along the East Coast. Temperatures will remain
below average Monday through Thursday with highs in the 60s and
lows in the 40s.

.AVIATION /00Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 750 PM EDT Thursday...

VFR flying weather is expected to dominate the 00z TAF period
but increasing chances for showers from late morning through the
evening could offer some localized flight restrictions. Winds
generally light and variable overnight become southeast/south
into the afternoon ahead of the approaching cold front. Flow
turns west and northwest behind the front late in the period.

Outlook: Conditions improve Friday night into Saturday. High
pressure builds across the area Saturday and slides offshore
Sunday. Another cold front potentially moves across the area
Sunday night into Monday.

.MARINE...
As of 400 PM EDT Thursday...

High pressure is centered over the region this afternoon. A
light northerly to northeasterly flow (5-10 kt) is present this
afternoon. An area of low pressure is forecasted to form over
central VA Friday morning. As the low pressure deepens
tomorrow, winds will become SE 10-15 kt. Winds may funnel over
the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and be slightly stronger over
the southern bay with gusts near 20 kt in the afternoon. This
low pressure will track east towards the Chesapeake Bay, bring
scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm. Localized
strong and gusty winds are possible as showers/storms move
across the bay and offshore Friday afternoon.

As the low pressure moves off the coast, winds will become NW
15-20 kt Friday night. Confidence is low on whether winds will
reach to SCA levels, therefore, decided to hold off on issuing
a SCA now.

NW winds will be around 20 kt Saturday as a low pressure track
north of the region. SCAs are possible at this time. High
pressure will become centered over the area Saturday night with
winds becoming light and variable. High pressure will quickly
move off the coast Sunday morning with southerly winds 10-20 kt
Sunday into Sunday night.

Waves in the bay will be 2-3 ft during periods of increased
winds, and seas will be 3-5 ft.
