Dry and cold weather is expected through Sunday as high
pressure builds across the local area. A cold front will push
across the area on Monday, bringing the next opportunity for
widespread rain. The weather will be dry and warmer behind the
cold front on Tuesday and Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 100 PM EST Sunday...

Latest analysis shows high pressure centered over the area this
afternoon. The high will slowly shift east today and slide off
the coast late this afternoon or early this evening. High
clouds will begin to move in late in from W to E this afternoon
through the evening. Temps as of 12:55 PM range from the mid to
upper 30s. High temps this afternoon generally in the lower 40s
with scattered upper 30s possible, especially along the coast
and over the Eastern Shore.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 230 AM EST Sunday...

On Monday the high pushes further away from the coast. Meanwhile,
low pressure over the Great Lakes will move into eastern Canada and
drag a cold front through the eastern US. WAA slowly creeps in from
the south overnight resulting in low temps occurring shortly after
midnight and then temps will slowly start rising overnight into
early Monday morning. Precip approaches from the south and west
ahead of the frontal boundary, but likely doesn't reach the forecast
area until around 13Z. Mostly a rain event on Monday but forecast
soundings over the NW suggests there may be a brief window of a
wintry mix (SN/IP/ZR) for a few hours Monday morning before changing
over to all rain. Bulk of the rain moves through the area late
Monday morning through the afternoon and exits the coast during the
evening. QPF totals through Monday evening 0.40-0.60". High temps on
Monday range from the mid 40s N to mid and upper 50s SE.

The front pushes away from the coast late Monday night and then high
pressure builds in from the SW through Tuesday. Monday night low
temps 30-35. Plenty of sunshine on Tuesday and W/SW flow will result
in temps slightly above normal. Afternoon highs in the mid to upper
50s. Low temps Tuesday night in the low to mid 30s for most, upper
30s over the far SE.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 230 AM EST Sunday...

High pressure continues to build in the SE Tues night into Wed
before sliding off the SE coast late Wed. This will allow for a nice
warmup with drier weather. Highs in the low 60s (upper 50s for the
Eastern Shore) Wed and mid 50s N to the low 60s SE Thurs. A cold
front moves through Thurs with no precip expected locally. High
pressure builds to the N late Thurs into Sat. Some uncertainty
exists between global models for a system which may impact the
area Friday into Saturday, possibly bringing a period of wintry
precip to a portion of the area. For now will maintain slight

As of 1220 PM EST Sunday...

VFR conditions expected through most of the forecast period as high
pressure moves off the coast. High level clouds increase west to
east across the area tonite ahead of a cold front. This front will
be slow to cross the area Mon. MVFR CIGS along with rain shwrs will
accompany its passage starting arnd 15Z at RIC/SBY then into the
aftrn hrs across the se. Winds become south tonite on the back side
of the high. These south winds increase and become gusty (20-30 kts)
Mon morning as the pressure gradient ahead of the front tightens.

OUTLOOK...
VFR conditions return after the fropa Mon nite and should remain
VFR through mid week as high pressure builds into the area.

.MARINE...
As of 330 PM EST Sunday...

Afternoon surface analysis shows 1034mb high pressure over the
region with low pressure centered over NW Missouri. Winds are
variable across the waters this afternoon, generally 5-10 kt. Waves
in the Bay are 1-2 ft with seas 2-4 ft.

High pressure moves offshore tonight with south and southeast return
flow setting up after midnight. Winds are forecast to strengthen to
10-15 kt by sunrise on Monday and 15-20 kt by mid to late morning as
the pressure gradient tightens as low pressure and the surface cold
front approach from the west. Have introduced SCA headlines for the
Ches Bay, Currituck Sound, and coastal waters starting at 15z. Waves
build to 2-3 ft Monday afternoon but are forecast to subside back
into the 1-2 ft range Monday night. Seas will build to 4-7 ft N and
3-6 ft S but fall back to 2-4 ft by Tuesday morning. The cold front
will cross the waters Monday afternoon into the evening. S and SW
flow ahead of the front will turn westerly and decrease behind the
boundary. High-res guidance shows a strongly-forced line of showers
immediately preceding the cold front with the potential for enhanced
winds aloft mixing down in the deeper convection. A combination of
Marine Weather Statements and/or Special Marine Warnings may be
necessary as this line crosses the local waters Monday afternoon.
Winds turn westerly and decrease to 10-15 kt after sunset. Westerly
flow continues on Tuesday with areas near the coast (upper rivers
especially) becoming gusty as warmer temperatures over land promote
deeper mixing. High pressure builds over the SE CONUS for the
midweek period with another cold front crossing the region Thursday
with sub-SCA flow in its wake.
