.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build across the Mid-Atlantic today, before
sliding off the coast tonight and Friday. A warm front will
north of the area Friday night into Christmas morning. A dry
cold front crosses the region Sunday morning.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1120 AM EST Thursday...

Late this morning, sfc high pressure was centered right over the
area. Under a sunny sky, temps ranged from the upper 30s to mid
40s.

The center of the sfc high will build to the coast this aftn.
Sunny, with high temps ranging from the lower 40s NE to the
upper 40s S and SW. The airmass will be quite dry with aftn
dewpoints in the mid teens to lower 20s. The high slides
offshore tonight, and there is a subtle warm front that clips
the NE portion of the area tonight. Mostly clear conditions this
evening along with the dry airmass and a calm to very light
wind should allow temps to drop quickly this evening. Overnight
lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s will likely be achieved by
late evening, with temps becoming steady, and even rising a few
degrees later tonight as clouds increase with WAA aloft.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 350 AM EST Thursday...

High pressure slides farther offshore Friday into
Christmas Day as an upper ridge builds across the Ohio Valley.
Partly sunny, and potentially becoming mostly cloudy N by afternoon
as another subtle warm front approaches from the WSW. High
temperatures Friday range from the mid 50s to near 60F. The warm
front slides across the northern tier of the area Friday night into
early Christmas morning. Partly to mostly cloudy Friday night with
low temperatures in the lower to mid 40s. Partly sunny (mostly cloudy
north in the morning) Christmas Day and very mild with high
temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s (upper 60s possible S).

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 350 AM EST Thursday...

A dry cold front will cross the area Sunday morning, followed
by high pressure and dry weather for Sunday into early Monday
morning. Another warm front will lift across the area Monday
followed by a weak cold front Monday into Tuesday, which could
bring a slight chance for rain showers. This front lifts back
north as a warm front Tuesday night into Wednesday. The rain
potential still looks minimal, so PoPs are no higher than 20% at
this time. Highs will be in the upper 50s to upper 60s Sunday,
in the mid 50s to mid 60s Monday, and in the upper 50s to upper
60s Tuesday and Wednesday (low 70s possible SE Wednesday). Lows
will be in the mid 40s to lower 50s Sunday morning, in the
mid/upper 30s to mid 40s Monday morning, in the 40s to around
50 Tuesday morning, and in the lower 40s to lower 50s Wednesday
morning.

.AVIATION /18Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 645 AM EST Thursday...

High pressure is building in from the west as of 12z, and this
area of high pressure will pass across the region today, and
begin to nudge offshore tonight. This will bring dry and VFR
conditions under a clear/sunny sky, followed by increasing
clouds tonight as the high moves offshore. A N wind of 8-12kt
this morning at ORF/ECG will become NE this afternoon, with a
5-10kt NW wind at SBY late morning into early afternoon,
becoming light and variable later in the afternoon, and
generally light and variable at RIC/PHF today. All sites are
expected to have a 5-8kt SSW wind by tonight.

High pressure shifts farther offshore Friday through Christmas
Day, with mainly dry and VFR conditions expected along with a
SW wind. A weak and dry cold front crosses the area late
Saturday night into Sunday morning. High pressure builds over
the area Sunday night and slides offshore Monday.

.MARINE...
As of 330 AM EST Thursday...

Early this morning, high pressure is building across the waters
from the west. Pressure gradient between the building high and
low pressure over Nova Scotia is allowing for N winds to remain
elevated to around 15 to 25 knots. Winds will continue to
diminish this morning as high pressure becomes centered over the
waters. SCAs should be allowed to expire by mid-morning outside
of the southern coastal waters where 5+ foot seas may linger
into the afternoon.

Sub-SCA conditions are expected by this afternoon as high
pressure becomes centered over the region. Tonight, a warm front
lifts north of the waters leading to a pretty decent S to SW
surge. As a result, another round of SCAs will likely be needed
later tonight into Friday as winds increase to 15 to 25 knots
and seas build back to 4 to 5 feet. Winds briefly diminish
Friday afternoon before another S to SW surge of wind Friday
night into Saturday (leading to more SCAs). A cold front pushes
through the area Saturday night into Sunday with gusty W to NW
winds in its wake and possibly yet another round of SCAs.
