.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will track northeast just off the Southeast and Mid
Atlantic coast today into tonight. Meanwhile, a cold front will
approach from the west during today, then crosses the area late
tonight into early Tuesday morning. High pressure will gradually
build into the region from the west Tuesday and Wednesday, as
low pressure strengthens off the southern New England coast.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
As of 930 PM EDT Sunday...

Late evening wx analysis shows strong low pressure near the
MO/IA/IL border, with a trailing cold front extending SSW to nrn
TX. The low continues to push eastward. There is a shortwave
aloft over GA that is producing showers and a few tstms over
portions of GA and nrn FL. Skies are mostly clear across the
local area with the warm front to our north. However, BKN high
clouds will quickly move into the area overnight in advance of
the shortwave approaching from the SW. Temperatures have fallen
into the upper 50s to mid 60s in most areas, and may fall a few
degrees more before leveling off later tonight. It should
remain dry through the night with increasing clouds. Lows in the
mid 50s to low 60s.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 300 PM EDT Sunday...

Mon starts off dry. Moisture then increases from both the se and
west. First, expect shwrs to dvlp across ne NC arnd noon as a
coastal low dvlps over the Gulf Stream. Second, shwrs will increase
across the Piedmont after 18Z ahead of the apprchg cold front.
Although a rumble or two of thunder is psbl, any significant tstrm
threat appears to hold off until the eve hrs. Thus, chc aftrn PoPs
with the highest PoP across the west aftr 21Z. Highs 75-80.

SPC conts to show the entire fa in a svr tstm risk Mon nite as the
cold front crosses the area. SLGHT risk west of the Ches Bay, MRGNL
along the coast. Main threat will be damaging wind gusts.

High res models more bullish and a smidgin faster with the event
than the general models are. While sct shwrs/tstms will track nne
along the coast during the eve assctd with the dvlpng coastal low, a
more impressive line of convection is progged to cross the mts late
Mon aftrn, reaching the western most AKQ zones arnd 22Z. This is the
line where the svr threat exists, but remain cautious given the
different model outputs. This line moves east across the Piedmont
and coastal plain thru 03Z, then pushes east towards the coast while
weakening thru 06Z. Timing wise for any svr threat will be Mon eve.
In addition, lclly heavy downpours are psbl given the incrg PW's
ahead of the front. No significant flooding is expected given the
progressive nature of the systm but some minor issues are psbl.
Highest PoPs (cat/likely) Mon eve will taper off to chc PoPs aftr
midnite. Lows 55-60.

Tue/Wed look somewhat unsettled along the coast as the models
continue to struggle on what to do with the energy pushing off the
coast Mon nite. Some want to dvlp a secondary (weaker) low along the
Delmarva Tue while others want to merge the energy into the coastal
low, resulting in rapid cyclogenesis off the Mid Atlntc coast
Tue morn (ECMWF has a 971 mb low) off the srn New England coast
Tue nite. These differences continue wrt the track and strength
as it is progged to get kicked farther offshore Wed. Stay tuned.

Upshot for the AKQ local area will show wrap arnd shwrs from the
Ches Bay and coastal areas Tue/Tue night shifting offshore to the
coastal waters Wed. Main concern will be breezy to windy conditions
(at times) along the coast. Otw, dry inland under fair to pt cldy
skies, mstly cldy along the coast. Highs both Tue/Wed 65-70. Lows
Tue nite mid 40s-lwr 50s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 300 PM EDT Sunday...

The unsettled pattern conts but this time from the west. Large upr
lvl low across the Tenn valley Thurs is progged to slowly spin nne
across the region Fri and into New England next weekend. Given the
model differences wrt both track and moisture impulses rotating arnd
the main low, will keep chc PoPs each period starting Thu aftrn thru
Sat, although there will be dry periods thru this time frame as well.
Drying out Sun. Highs each day 65-70. Lows mid 40s-lwr 50s.

.AVIATION /07Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 235 AM EDT Monday...

VFR conditions will prevail at the TAF sites through this aftn,
then will gradually deteriorate to MVFR and IFR this evening
into tonight, as the combination of low pressure moving NE off
the SE and Mid Atlc coast and a cold front moving into the area,
provide showers and sctd tstms. Southerly winds become gusty
(to ~20kt) during today. Sctd showers will continue behind the
boundary Tue morning, esply ENE areas.

Outlook...Sctd showers will then become confined mainly to the
Lower MD and VA ern shore Tue aftn into early Wed morning, as
low pressure strengths offshore. Winds become NW/N and breezy in
spots Tue through Wed morning.

.MARINE...
As of 350 PM EDT Sunday...

This afternoon, high pressure is centered offshore and will drift
further east through this evening. Meanwhile, a low pressure system
continues to track across the central US this afternoon and will
track into the Great Lakes region overnight through Monday morning.
SSE winds generally range from 10 to 15 knots this afternoon. Seas
range from 2 to 3 feet while waves in the Chesapeake Bay range from
1 to 2 feet. Pressure gradient tightens across the region later this
evening through tonight between the departing high and approaching
low pressure system. As a result, S to SSE winds increase to around
15 knots for much of the waters and 15 to 20 knots for the northern
Chesapeake Bay and coastal waters north of Cape Charles. SCAs remain
in effect starting this evening and running into early Monday
morning for the Chesapeake Bay north of New Point Comfort to account
for the wind increase. More marginal conditions for the southern
Chesapeake Bay, but would not be shocked to see a few gusts to 20
knots, especially at elevated sites. In addition, seas increase to 3
to 4 feet (potentially a few 5 footers out 20 nm) and waves 2 to 4
feet.

A strong cold front will approach from the west during the day
tomorrow before crossing the waters tomorrow night into early
Tuesday. An area of low pressure likely develops off the
Carolinas/Mid-Atlantic coast Monday night becoming a sub-980 mb low
off of the northeast US coast on Tuesday. Between a strong CAA surge
in the wake of the front and the deepening low pressure offshore,
the probability of gale force gusts continues to increase especially
for the coastal waters north of Cape Charles. Local wind
probabilities indicate a 50% to 70% chance of gusts to 34 knots
Tuesday night into Wednesday for much of the northern coastal waters
and even a ~10-15% chance for 48 knot gusts up near Buoy 44009. Gale
watches will likely be needed for at least the northern waters on
future shifts. High-end SCA conditions are in the forecast for the
remainder of the waters with the northern Bay also seeing the
potential for some Gale force gusts. Winds gradually diminish
through the day on Wednesday, eventually becoming sub-SCA by
Wednesday evening/night. In addition to increasing winds, seas will
also build to 5 to 7 feet (8 feet out 20 nm) Tuesday night and waves
in the Bay 3 to 4 feet (5 feet at the mouth of the Bay). Seas likely
remain in excess of 5 feet through much of the week and potentially
into next weekend.

Another strong system then looks to develop Friday into next weekend
on the heels of the departing system, bringing the potential for (at
least) another period of SCAs across the waters.
