.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will track north across northern Virginia tonight
as a weak frontal boundary washes out across the region late.
A warm front will lift back to the north as a warm front Sunday
afternoon. A stronger cold front will cross the area from the
northwest late Sunday night into Monday morning. Canadian high
pressure returns Monday night through Tuesday, before another
system potentially impacts the region Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 845 PM EST Saturday...
Latest MSAS has a cold front across coastal NC, just south of the
local area with a secondary frntl bndry across the mts. Meanwhile,
weak high pres was located near PIT. Models show this frntl bndry
basically washing out across the area as the high pushes ese
overnite. What this will do is result in winds shifting from the
wsw to the ese, allowing Atlntc moisture to overspread the area.
In addition, the next wave of pcpn, crntly over sw VA, will track
ene and overspread the nrn half of the fa overnite. Thus, expect
any shwrs this eve to become more of a rain/drizzle/fog issue after
midnite with the highest PoPs across the north. May even be dealing
with some marine fog by sunrise at the winds turn onshore. Lows in
the 40s to near 50 across interior ne NC.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 400 PM EST Saturday...
The local area is expected to remain within the warm sector
Sunday night with low temperatures in the mid 50s to low 60s
along with a modest SW breeze. A cold front will approach from
the NW Sunday night and track through the area late Sunday night
into Monday morning. The highest PoPs remain from later Sunday
night into midday Monday. Models still depict some instability
Sunday night, and high-res data does depict a thin line of
convection developing in this region late Sunday night into
early Monday morning. Confidence of thunder is still not high
enough to include in the forecast, but a rumble of thunder is
possible. More importantly, 950mb wind is forecast to be
40-45kt, so any convective elements could mix down some stronger
wind. 27/12z models have trended down with regard to QPF and in
general 0.5-0.75" is expected at this time. This will reduce
the threat of river flooding due to local runoff. However, some
higher amounts are possible across the headwaters.
Cool Canadian high pressure builds into the area Monday night
into Tuesday. The sky is expected to clear along with the
arrival of more winter-like temperatures. Forecast lows Monday
night range from the upper 20s to low 30s, followed by highs in
the low to mid 40s Tuesday.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 400 PM EST Saturday...
Models remain divergent on their solutions from Tuesday night
through Wednesday night. The GFS still maintains dry wx during
this period, keeping any systems well south of the area. While
the 12z ECMWF brings another system up into and across the
region Tuesday night through Wednesday. Generally didn't stray
too far from the NBM due to the continued uncertainty, which
has chance PoPs across much of the region Wednesday
morning/afternoon. Could also see a bit of a rain/snow mix at
the onset of the event Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, but this
will remain highly dependent on the timing of the system.
Mainly dry weather for Thursday into Friday. Generally near
normal or slight above normal temps expected for most of the
extended period. Another system potentially develops off the
coast Friday night into Saturday. The general consensus amongst
27/12z deterministic and ensemble guidance is for low pressure
to be off the coast with cool high pressure to the N, but it is
too early to be specific on exact temperatures and p-type.

.AVIATION /08Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 1245 AM EST Sunday...
VFR conditions remain for the start of the 06z TAF period. BKN-
OVC mid level clouds remain across the region (~10000 feet) and
a few light rain showers are overspreading northern portions of
the area. A weak boundary has sagged south of the region this
evening, with light east to northeast winds at the TAF sites. As
we head closer to sunrise, low level moisture will increase
ahead of a warm front that will slowly lift north across the
area today. As a result, ceilings lower to IFR at all sites
(outside of ECG and potentially ORF) by mid morning. In
addition patchy fog, drizzle, and light rain showers will
develop across the area. The boundary slowly lifts north through
the day, but progress will likely be slow, with the front
potentially not making it north of RIC/SBY until the evening or
overnight hours. Low clouds will break up from south to north,
but will remain stubborn at RIC/SBY due to the slow progress of
the front. Easterly winds gradually become SW through the day as
the front progresses north.
OUTLOOK... Low pressure is expected to track across the region
Mon morning as a cold front moves through the area. This will
bring another round of degraded flight conditions. High pressure
returns Mon night into Tues. Low pressure potentially moves off
the Carolina coast by the middle of next week.

.MARINE...
As of 250 AM EST Sunday...
A weak frontal boundary remains draped E-W just S of the FA
waters attm w/ mostly E winds blo 10 kt as sfc hi pres is
situated INVOF NJ/NY. Seas linger around 5 ft off the MD beaches
attm and the current SCA will remain until about 12Z/28. That
boundary will be lifting N across the local waters today into
tonight...resulting in ESE winds becoming SSW (lastly over far
nrn portions)...and avgg mainly blo 15 kt. Will need to monitor
for (dense) FG potentially developing as WAA occurs over the
colder waters. SW winds overnight tonight 10-20 kt (highest at
elevated sites) to cause seas to reach to 5 ft off of the VA
ern shore (highest out past 10 NM).
A cold front will be moving off the coast from the northwest
through early Mon afternoon. There may be a line of heavy
SHRAs along the front that could produce brief gusty winds of
25-30 kt as it passes through. Otherwise, winds will become NW
and generally around 10-20 kt during the remainder of Monday.
Keeping seas 4-5 ft Cape Charles VA on N.
A secondary/stronger cold front crosses the local waters Mon
night. NW winds and strong CAA anticipated and wind probs have
increased to indicated a better potential for Gale conditions
(esp Cape Charles VA N on the ocean and N of Windmill Pt VA on
the bay). Elsewhere, SCAs will likely be needed Mon night into
Tue afternoon (and can be added by a later shift).
Regarding headlines...as stated above...a SCA remains up N of
Chincoteague VA for seas lingering around 5 ft early this
morning. Otw...will raise a SCA for the ocean waters N of Cape
Charles VA tonight and continue through Mon evening on SW winds
becoming NW and seas avgg 4-5 ft (will add Chincoteague VA on N
after current SCA ends to avoid 3 headlines w/ this package). A
gale watch will be put in place for Mon night into Tue morning
for the ocean waters N of Cape Charles VA and on the bay N of
Windmill Pt. A very short window (along w/ lower wind probs) for
poss gale gusts (< 3 hrs) suggested for late Mon night over the
central/srn bay (including the mouth) and the ocean waters S of
Cape Charles VA...however since late 4th pd w/ keep those areas
out of the Gale Watch attm.
