.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure slowly tracks across the local area today...then
exits off the coast tonight. Another area of low pressure
tracks south of the local area late Wednesday into Thursday
morning. High pressure builds across the region for the end of
the week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 325 AM EST Tuesday...

The overall pattern across the CONUS is setup for a series of
storms to affect the local area into next week. The first of
these systems is moving across the FA now...primary lo pres
tracking to the ern Great Lakes today eventually transferring to
a secondary lo pres off the mid-Atlantic region (by tonight).
Widespread low clouds and ra expected until mid-late morning
then winding down/ending this afternoon. Temperatures attm over
portions of the piedmont well NW of RIC are holding near/just
above freezing...not expecting any icy conditions though as
temperatures have held nearly steady for several hours.

There may be attempt some clearing later today...but expecting
mixing to be too weak (despite winds turning from onshore to
WSW) for scouring out low level moisture/to just clear out.
Highest PoPs will be this morning (avgg 60-100%) then decrease
sharply thereafter. The anticipated lingering cloudiness will
have ramifications on temperatures. Highest mainly from the
m-u40s N to the m-u50s far SSE.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 325 AM EST Tuesday...

Residual low level moisture will likely remain problematic
tonight into Wed morning. For now...going partly-mostly cloudy
w/ winds mainly lgt/VRB. Lows from the l-m40s N and NW to the
m40s far SE.

The next storm begins to head E from the central CONUS Wed.
Meanwhile...moisture will start to increase in coverage INVOF a
lingering frontal boundary over the Carolinas. Over the local
area...VRB clouds-partly sunny but w/ increasing cloudiness from
the SSW by late in the day. Winds become N remaining blo 15 mph.
High temperatures once again will be tricky as guidance is
showing a decent spread ranging from the 40s to 50s/near 60F.
Have chosen a blend of the guidance which gives highs from the
u40s N and NE to the l50s S. There will be a 20-30% of rain over
NE NC by evening.

00Z/26 models continue to show the faster movement of this low
and associated area of precipitation through the FA. The system
will have to generate cold air through dynamics (a rain-snow
scenario). The upper level system exiting the mountains Wed
evening will be feature that generates bulk of the pcpn over the
FA Wed night as sfc lo pres tracks to coastal NC. ECMWF has been
showing a more srn track to this storm for several days...the
GFS has finally caught on (in the past 24 hrs).

Rain Wed evening expected to mix w/ and change over to a period
of wet snow after midnight as dynamics and cooling aloft takes
place. Highest potential for snow accums 1" or more are over far
srn/interior SE VA into NE NC. Right now...keeping accums blo
1" over the FA...window for snow will be short (I am aware of
the GFS showing several inches in those areas). Timing of pcpn
changeover/temperatures and intensity will be key to any
eventual accums. Lows around 30F N to the m30s along coastal SE
VA- NE NC.

Lo pres exits quickly Thu morning. NNW winds become breezy/windy
in its wake as clearing occurs. Gusts to 35-45 mph are
expected...most likely at the coast (where a wind advisory may
be needed). Cold Thu w/ highs not too far from 40F.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 340 AM EST Tuesday...

High pressure centers over the area Friday then moves offshore
Saturday. Temps will remain cool Friday with temps in the upper
30s/lower 40s then only slight warming into the low-mid 40s
Saturday. Then, the medium range models have another area of low
pressure moving through the Great Lakes then developing another low
off the NE coast by Monday. The associated cold front will move
through the region Sunday. Snow to rain poss late Sat night
into Sunday morning before southerly flow allows for rain as
temps warm into the 40s and lower 50s. (00Z/26 ECMWF ensembles
do show an increase in prob snow accums 3" or more over portions
of the piedmont...will that trend continue?). Continued chance
for rain or snow Sun night into Mon morning as the upper trough
moves overhead behind the cold front.

.AVIATION /12Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 625 AM EST Tuesday...

Expect widespread IFR CIGS/IFR-MVFR VSBYS through 15-17Z in
mainly rain as lo pres tracks east across the region. A dry
slot is expected to cut off the pcpn by late this morning/early
this afternoon. Residual low level moisture may prevent
significant improvement of CIGs tonight/early Wed. Winds ENE to
SW less than 10 kt. Another lo pres affects the FA Wed night
then moves offshore early Thu w/ additional flight restrictions
due to low CIGs and pcpn. Becoming VFR and breezy/windy Thu.

.MARINE...
As of 225 AM EST Tuesday...

E winds mainly 10-15 kt will continue this morning, before low
pressure moves offshore early this afternoon and winds become
westerly. Weak high pressure and NW or N winds around 10 kt expected
tonight and Wed. The next storm will then affect the local waters
Wed night then exit quickly out to sea during Thu. By late Wed
night, NNW winds will increase and become quite strong in the wake
of the storm Thu into Thu night. Despite the storm being quick to
move through the region (as well as slower to strengthen offshore
Thu/Thu night), solid Gales appear likely (strong SCAs for the
Rivers). Gusts 35-40 kt will be common for the Bay/Currituck
Sound/Coastal Waters and 30 kt for the Rivers from early Thu morning
thru Thu evening. NW winds slowly diminish on Friday. Seas are
expected to top out between 6-9 ft with waves on the Bay 4-5 ft. A
Gale Watch will likely be issued later today.

Low pressure tracking near the region could produce a period of
light snow late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. In
addition, it will become windy close to the coast Thursday with
gusts of 35 to 45 mph possible and 20 to 30 mph inland.
