.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front lifts north through the local area late today and
tonight, followed by another cold front crossing the region
Saturday night. High pressure builds back across the local area
Sunday, with mild and dry weather to continue for much of next
week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 320 AM EST Friday...

Early morning wx analysis shows high pressure centered just off the
coast, with strengthening low pressure near the Colorado/Kansas
border, with a warm front still well to our south. The flow aloft is
quasi-zonal across the ern CONUS. Temperatures leveled off earlier
and have started to rise as lower (2500-7000ft AGL) clouds have
overspread most of the area in advance of the northward moving warm
front. Winds are light out of the south. The low currently over the
High Plains slowly deepens today before rapidly deepening tonight
(to ~985mb) as it races NE into the wrn Great Lakes. Skies will
remain mostly cloudy to overcast for much of the day as the warm
front lifts toward the area with rather strong warm/moist advection
in the 925-850mb layer. Forecast highs are generally in the mid-
upper 50s, with low 50s possible across nrn zones/low 60s for
extreme SE portions of the FA. At the same time, a weak disturbance
in the flow aloft approaches from the WSW today and is progged to
cross the area from this afternoon-late this evening. This will
allow scattered light rain showers to overspread part of the area by
afternoon, before increasing in coverage this evening-early tonight
(especially north of I-64 and east of I-95) as the warm front lifts
north across the area (and will be well to our N by Sat morning).
Continued a slight to lower-end chance PoP (20-30%) for most this
evening-early tonight, but raised PoPs to 40-50% E of RIC and N of
Hampton Roads. With the aforementioned warm/moist advection in the
925-850mb layer and even some very weak (~100 J/kg) elevated
instability, could certainly see brief moderate rain rates with the
strongest showers (w/ local pcpn amounts of 0.10"+). This is
supported by some of the 00z/10 CAMs. Average QPF through tonight is
still only a few hundredths of an inch though. Lows will be quite a
bit milder than previous nights with increasing clouds and southerly
winds. In fact, expect lows to occur during the late evening, mainly
in the upper 40s NW to mid 50s SE, with slowly rising temperatures
(and dew points) during the remainder of the night.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 320 AM EST Friday...

That surface low will continue to deepen from Saturday into Saturday
night, as it lifts across Ontario and western Quebec. The trailing
surface cold front will approach the area on Saturday before
crossing the FA from NW to SE Sat evening-Sat night. Despite
considerable cloud cover through the day...expect a warm day across
the local area thanks to increasing SSW flow/WAA ahead of the front.
Forecast highs are in the low to mid 70s over most areas are
expected Saturday, with upper 60s to low 70s on the Lower Ern Shore.
These temperatures will challenge established record high
temperatures across the area, and expect at least one or two daily
record highs to be broken on Sat, most likely at RIC/SBY. See
Climate section below for site-specific details. Additionally, a
strengthening 950-850mb jet will allow some strong gusts to mix down
over land areas during peak heating. Southwesterly winds are
expected to be 20-25mph, with gusts up to 40mph well supported by in-
house wind probability guidance (highest gusts are expected to be on
the Ern Shore where the boundary layer wind fields are strongest.
Held off on Wind Advisories for the Ern Shore at this time (where
gusts will be close to criteria), given that it is still a 3rd-4th
period event.

As far as timing the front and the rain, 00z/10 NCEP models
(GFS/NAM) remain quickest with the FROPA, but they have continued
the trend of being just a little bit slower/closer to the CMC/ECMWF.
Have slowed down PoPs by a couple of hours, and will continue with
high-end likely PoPs (~70%) for most of the area Sat night, as the
front swings across the area. Expect a broken line of gusty
anafrontal showers to cross the area into early Sunday morning.
Given only very limited instability and evening/late night timing,
will continue to hold out thunder from the forecast, though it
should be noted that a convective Marginal Risk from SPC remains in
place across roughly the NW third of the FA, again with the primary
threat coming from isolated damaging wind gusts from those showers
Sat evening-early Sat night. QPF with the FROPA is generally 0.1-
0.3" (lowest NW/highest SE), mainly falling Sat night. Temperatures
and dew points steadily fall after the FROPA, and lows Sat night
range from the mid 30s NW to mid 40s SE. High pressure quickly
builds toward the area on Sunday, and becomes centered over the area
Sunday evening-Sunday night. Cannot rule out some lingering light
rain across extreme SE portions of the FA Sunday morning, but Sunday
will mainly be dry with clearing skies and highs in the low-mid 50s.
With the high over the area, lows are forecast to fall into the
upper 20s-low 30s for most areas Sunday night (mid 20s possible
NW).

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 320 AM EST Friday...

Surface high pressure remains near the area through early next week
before moving offshore by the middle of the week. Ridging aloft
starts to builds over the SE CONUS, with a broad ~590 dm anticyclone
expected to be near the FL Panhandle by the middle of the week.
Expect a slow warming trend and dry wx from Mon through Thu. Daytime
highs will generally be in the 50s on Mon, with high forecast
confidence that highs rise back above average into the 60s (to
perhaps near 70F) for the middle of next week. Overnight lows are
forecast to be in the upper 20s-mid 30s Mon night, 30s to near 40F
Tue night, low-mid 40s Wed night, and upper 40s-low 50s Thu
night.

.AVIATION /18Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 125 PM EST Friday...

VFR conditions early this afternoon at RIC-SBY, with periodic
MVFR/low-end VFR at PHF-ORF-ECG on light south winds. BKN- OVC
conditions and low-end VFR CIGs are expected to persist through
much of the day. Light to moderate rain showers are possible
(highest PoPs at SBY) from late aftn into the first part of
tonight, but again only expecting brief MVFR VSBYs are expected
at worst with these showers. VCSH has been used at area
terminals this aftn.

Cloud cover will linger tonight with high confidence of
deteriorating CIGs overnight, from MVFR all terminals and a
chance of IFR after 08-10z tonight into mid-morning Saturday.
Winds will generally be S to SW at 5-8kt through the period.
Additionally, a 40-55kt S-SW LLJ (in advance of our next cold
front) will bring the threat of LLWS to RIC this evening, and
likely all terminals by Saturday aftn/night.

Outlook: A cold front approaches from the W Saturday and moves
through the area Sat evening into Sun morning. Breezy SW winds
are expected Saturday, with gusts from 25-35kt possible from
late morning into the afternoon. There will likely be a
narrow band of quick moving showers along and just behind the
front Saturday evening. High pressure builds into the area
Sunday through Tuesday, bringing dry and VFR conditions.

.MARINE...
As of 320 AM EST Friday...

SW winds 10-15 kt this morning will become S and diminish a bit this
aftn as high pressure pushes off the coast and a warm front
that lifts north across the area. Pressure gradient increases
tonight (but remaining blo SCA levels) ahead of a strong cold
front that will cross the waters Sat night.

An active marine forecast over the weekend as SSW winds increase
ahead of the cold front Sat/Sat eve then shift to the NW behind the
fropa late Sat night/Sun before diminishing Sun aftn.

Have hoisted SCA headlines for all marine zones over the weekend.
First, expect SSW winds to avg 15-25 kt Sat. Could see some gusts
to 30 kts, but expect the strongest winds Sat aftn to be over
land. The cold front crosses the waters Sat eve. Models show the
potential for 35-40 kts with a line of convective showers right
along the actual fropa. Since these gusty winds will be
convective in nature, will likely handle them with SMW's rather
than any gale headlines.

Winds shift to the NW behind the front and remain gusty late Sat
night/Sun morn. Expect these winds to be somewhat stronger
given a strong push of low level CAA for a several hr period.
Here is where gusts to 30 kts will be likely with even a few
gusts to 35 kts across the nrn coastal waters. Held off on any
4th/5th period gale headline attm.

Waves increase to 3-4 ft with 4-5 ft seas south and 5-8 ft seas
north during this time frame before subsiding Sun aftn/eve.
Winds also subside by Sun eve as high pres builds back into the
area.
