.SHORT TERM... / Through Sunday / Windy conditions remain across
the panhandle overnight as the first low-pressure system is
replaced by a second as it moves NW along the panhandle. This
second low pressure is on track to remain further away from the
panhandle than the previous, resulting in breezy conditions, but
not as strong as we saw today. Once this low pressure moves out of
the forecast region, high pressure will build.

Frequent gusts of 40 mph + are occurring at E/W inner channels
including scull island, naked island, and five finger. Strong
winds overland are possible over the next 24 hours, but mainly
Friday night, with gusts up to 50 mph. The pressure gradient
shifts to favor strong winds from the north on Sunday, resulting
in small crafts along the N/S inner channels.

Quick bands of moderate precipitation are anticipated as the
second low pressure moves along the panhandle overnight tonight.
There is some potential for thunder Saturday, but confidence is
below average. The region dries out Sunday as the onshore flow
shifts to offshore. Clearing skies Sunday will lead to a more
diurnal curve in the temperatures, bringing low temperatures to
near or below freezing. Chances of fog also increase during this
time.

.LONG TERM.../ Sunday through Friday as of 10 pm Thursday /
An upper-level trough at 500 Mb continues to dig southeast
resulting in the closed low southwest of Vancouver Island by
Sunday afternoon a broad trough over the gulf into Tuesday.
Another trough moving to the western portion of the broad Gulf-
wide trough starting Tuesday will sharpen the through by pushing
up a ridge near the panhandle and then moving across the panhandle
area Wednesday. The mid to long-range solutions are a little
confused with timing and positioning which lowers the overall
confidence. The general idea remains that a trough moves into the
panhandle and the wet pattern will return after a minor break in
the weather.

The upper-level low undercuts the panhandle to the Southern
British Columbia coast Sunday and will cause east to northeast
flow over the panhandle to form. This track and positioning will
cause dry conditions Sunday for Southeast Alaska that will persist
through Monday afternoon and possibly into Tuesday. PoPs in the
chance categories will start to spread in from the southwest by
Tuesday.

A break in cloud cover is possible Sunday to Monday night,
allowing the radiational cooling overnight to be not limited,
leading to cooler overnight lows. Lows into the 20s to lower 30s
for the northern third of the panhandle can be anticipated.
