Friday. A developing low pressure system and gale force front 
moves across the gulf from the west through Friday evening The

Southeast Alaska Forecast Discussion...CORRECTED

.SHORT TERM...A slow moving frontal band moving east will stall over
the panhandle. A secondary low tracking east across the Gulf of
Alaska Tuesday night will move into the panhandle Wednesday. The low
will affect primarily the southern half, although the northern
portions will see some of the rain it is bringing into the area.
Light with briefly moderate rain has been falling along the
panhandle Tuesday, overnight periods of light rain will continue.

A general trough persists over the eastern gulf so rain and
showers will persist along the trough and over the terrain of
Southeast Alaska. Have kept the precipitation type as rain for
Wednesday however changing it to showers for Thursday as there is
no organized front and the precipitation will be mainly from
orographic lifting over the terrain. After this, a broad flat ridge
builds over the gulf.

Temperatures should be fairly steady under the cloudy and wet
pattern so diuranal changes will be just a handful of degrees
betwen the max and min temperatures.

.LONG TERM.../Thursday through Monday as of 10PM Monday/...For
Thursday, a post-frontal wave will come ashore in the southern
Panhandle and bring primarily light rainfall to that area and more
scattered showery activity to the northern Panhandle. For the
southern Panhandle, the stratiform precipitation will taper to
scattered showers through Friday. Friday will be the break between
systems with a dirty flat ridge poised over the eastern Gulf and
Panhandle, providing onshore flow and topographic uplift, which
will keep the scattered showers in the forecast for Friday. The
next system will approach the southern Panhandle for the Saturday
into Sunday timeframe. It will bring steady rainy conditions to
the Juneau / Icy Strait corridor, southward. It looks to depart
the Panhandle by Sunday night. Model forecast IVT values look to
remain relatively low for both weather systems, decreasing the
need to worry about hydrologic issues. A sharper, more amplified
ridge looks to build into the eastern Gulf and southeastern Alaska
for the first couple of days of the new work week. The ridge
looks like it will be tilted parallel to the Panhandle, giving
much less of an onshore component to the wind, which should give
us drier and nicer weather for Monday and Tuesday.

As for winds over the region, they look to generally remain around 20
knots or less for the long-term forecast period. The peaks in
wind will be associated with the tighter pressure gradients
associated the two main aforementioned features that will bring
weather to southeast Alaska and relatively higher pressure
positioned over Canada.

According to model forecast guidance, temperatures look to remain
rather stable. Highs look to range between the upper 50s and
middle 60s from north to south, respectively. The overnight lows
look to range between the upper 40s and middle 50s from north to
south, respectively. According to model forecast 850mb
temperatures, no significant warm or cold air advection is
anticipated through the period.

Forecast confidence for Saturday, onward in the long-term forecast
period is below average, due to model divergence in timing,
positioning, and strength of the upcoming weather features for
that time period. Confidence is average for Thursday and Friday. A
GFS/NAM/CMC/EC blend was used for Thursday, a GFS/EC blend was
used for Friday, and the forecast was gradually phased toward the
WPC solution for Saturday, onward, due to the lower confidence.
