region this morning. The Frost Advisory will be allowed to 
expire.

.SHORT TERM...Ridging currently over the Gulf will be the main
feature during the forecast period. Current satellite shows an
area of cloud and precipitation extending from BC and into the
coastal waters south of the region associated with a stationary
boundary. Further, a marine layer appears to be forming up in the
Gulf, but currently, land locations within SEAK are reporting few
to no clouds. During the evening to overnight hours, expecting the
marine layer to become more robust and eventually advect over the
coastal areas. Inner channel locations will likely remain mostly
clear for the overnight hours. This will have a direct impact on
the temperatures tonight as those coastal locations that saw
temperatures fall to near or below freezing last night should stay
warmer. Where the skies remain open, temperatures will once again
fall enough for frost potential.

Winds will generally be less than 15 kt through most of the
forecast period as the pressure gradient does not look to be very
strong. A couple exceptions do exist though. For starters, there
may be enough of a contraction of the gradient over the Yukon that
things could get a little breezy through Lynn Canal Wednesday
afternoon. Also, a low will be moving toward the region from south
of the Aleutians Thursday into Thursday night. As the associated
front moves through the Gulf, should see an increase in winds,
possibly to gales, will occur over the open waters. As onshore
flow increases ahead of this front, should see an increase in
cloud cover over the region and probably some rain for the coastal
areas by the conclusion of the short term forecast.

.LONG TERM.../Thursday to Tuesday as of 10 pm Monday/ The long
term forecast opens with a system bearing down on the area.
Cloud cover looks set to slowly rebuild throughout the area
through the day on Thursday before the system itself begins
arriving late Thursday Night. The bulk of the precipitation will
likely impact SE Alaska throughout Friday. Operational runs have
been slowly increasing QPF totals over the past few days, but am
not overly concerned with flood potential at this time. Besides
the rain, the system will bring with it small craft and gale force
winds winds to the outer coast, as well as breezy conditions for
coastal communities and some of the inner channels. Much of the
weekend will likely feature lingering chances of precipitation as
the front's parent low moves E across the gulf. Ensembles are
hinting at the possibility of some clearing late on Sunday as the
low tracks S of the panhandle, turning winds offshore. Uncertainty
continues to increase through early next week, with solutions
caught between building a ridge or bringing an Easterly wave into
the area.
