.SYNOPSIS...
There will finally be a one day reprieve in the rainfall today
over the Interior as the front associated with it shifts into the
Yukon. Partial clearing will allow temps Wednesday morning over
the Central Interior into the Middle Tanana Valley to drop into
the 30s with possible frost over the Central Interior. Rain
returns on Wednesday night then shifts east through Friday.

.DISCUSSION...

Upper Levels and Analysis...
There is a 512 dam arctic low sitting over the same spot it has
for the last few days, approximately 260 miles north of Prudhoe
Bay. A low amplitude shortwave trough at the base of the larger
scale trough is moving from the Tanana Valley to the Yukon. The
associated warm occluded frontal zone is bringing rain to the
Eastern Interior, with 3 day totals of 1.5-3". Snow showers are
impacting the North Slope with accumulating snow across the
eastern Brooks Range.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Rain ends this evening and will taper to showers over the
Fortymile and Eastern AK Range tonight, but that will continue
through tomorrow with dry conditions elsewhere. Partial clearing
tonight will also lead to cold temps over much of the Interior,
with temps dropping into the mid 30s with possible below freezing
temps in cold valleys from the Tanana Valley west. Wednesday will
be dry with increasing clouds from the west Wednesday night, but
there will be more cold valley temps into the 30s. Rain moves back
into the Interior from west to east Thursday and Friday, with
another 0.5-1.00" of rainfall expected.

West Coast and Western Interior...
A few rain showers over the northern Seward Pen and Chukchi Sea
Coast today, otherwise day tonight with more temps into the 30s
tonight. Another low will bring in...shocker, more rain Wednesday
evening through Friday as it shifts east. Expect widespread
0.5-0.75" of rainfall. This low will also bring near gale force
winds to Norton Sound and the Yukon Delta.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Rain and snow showers and northwest flow will gradually come to
an end Thursday as the upper arctic low shifts east. Drying
commences along the Arctic Coast thereafter with a front grazing
the Brooks Range with rain and snow Thu night and Fri.

Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
Beginning the extended period on Friday night there will be a
departing low with rainfall exiting into the Yukon. It looks
mostly dry minus some minor showers for much of the Mainland on
Saturday, but then next Bering low and associated front moves into
the Interior Sunday and will likely bring rain through at least
Monday as upper troughing remains dominant, and the August
rainfest continues.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Rain ends today with more rain moving in Thursday and Friday, with
light wetting rains.

.HYDROLOGY...
2.5 day rainfall totals across the Mainland/Interior have been 1.5
to 2.5", highest over the White Mountains and Alaska Range. Interior rivers
and streams from the White Mountains southwest along the north
slopes of the Alaska Range will continue to rise through at least
Wednesday, then gradually fall over the next few days thereafter.
No flooding is anticipated.
