.SYNOPSIS FOR NORTHWEST COAST...
A 999 mb low will move over the Seward Peninsula this evening and
into Kotzebue Sound as a 1002 mb low by tonight and then move 
near Point Hope by Sun AM. A 995 mb low in the Gulf of Anadyr will
continue moving SSW and weaken to a 997 mb low by Sun AM. A 993 
mb low just west of Nunivak Island will become absorbed into the 
stronger 986 mb low in Bristol Bay by Sun AM.

extending north and east to the Bering Strait will push eastward over

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Clouds and showers over the Central and Eastern Interior this
morning will give way to mostly sunny and dry conditions this
afternoon. Winds will increase through the Alaska Range Passes
and along the Northern Foothills of the Alaska Range Sunday
evening and will continue into Monday with temperatures reaching
into the 60s once again. The West Coast and Western Interior will
continue with periods of clouds and showers as a front stalls out
over the area. Low ceilings and fog will continue along the Arctic
Coast to the east of Point Barrow while inland areas of the North
Slope will see a bit of clearing.

.DISCUSSION...
Upper Levels and Analysis...
Aloft at 500 hpa, a deep trough remains over the Chukchi Sea
southward through the Bering Strait and into the Central Bering
Sea. This trough will become highly amplified and will stretch
from the pole southward into the Northern Pacific by Sunday. A
weak ridge aloft over Southwest Alaska this morning will push
rapidly east and build to the north over the Central and Eastern
Interior by Sunday morning. Strong southerly flow will develop
over the Central and Eastern Alaska Range by Sunday afternoon and
into Monday and will produce strong winds through the Alaska Range
Passes and along the Northern Foothills of the Alaska Range.

At the surface, a front stretching from a low near St Lawrence
Island north and eastward over the Central and Eastern Interior
will continue to push northward today reaching the Brooks Range by
early afternoon. Behind the front mostly sunny conditions will
dominate the Central and Eastern Interior along with temperatures
reaching into the upper 50s today and into the 60s on Sunday. A
second weak low currently over the YK Delta will move slowly north
along the West Coast and will bring periods of rain along the
coast as well as the Western Interior. into Sunday. A third low
pressure system will develop in the Southern Bering Sea and will
push east into Bristol Bay on Sunday and will bring another round
of rain to the West Coast and Western Interior south of Galena
Sunday.

Central and Eastern Interior...Clouds and periods of rain will
slowly diminish through the day today from south to north as a
front pushes north of Fairbanks into the Brooks Range with some
patchy fog developing this morning especially over areas that
receive rain. Once the front moves northward, expect clear and
drying conditions to return through the rest of the weekend.
Expect high temperatures on today to be slightly cooler with mid
to upper 50s but by Sunday expect afternoon high temperatures to
reach lower to mid 60s. Strong and gusty winds are expected to
develop along and near the Alaska Range Passes as well as the
northern foothills of the Alaska Range as a mountain wave develops
and brings stronger winds aloft down to the surface beginning
Sunday evening and continuing into Monday. Wind gusts in the 55
mph to 65 mph range are possible in these areas.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Dense fog continues this morning particularly from Deadhorse to
Barter Island and will be difficult to improve as as easterly
flow continues. Areas north of the Brooks Range will remain dry
through the weekend as high pressure remains situated over Arctic
waters. Temperatures will remain seasonal through the weekend.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Wet and cooler pattern continues across West Coast and Western
Interior and the wet pattern is expected to continue as surface
lows will remain in the Bering Sea which will bring periods of
precipitation into Sunday. Temperatures will remain near or
slightly below normal through the weekend.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Rivers in the Kobuk and Noatak Valley remain near bankfull and
continue to run high through the weekend as result of rainfall
through the previous week.
