A 1000 mb low near Cape Lisburne will move to near Point Lay as a
997 mb low by 4am Sat, and to 300 NM northwest of Wainwright as a
991 mb low by 4am Sun. A 997 mb low near Elim will weaken and move
inland by 4pm Sat. A low in northeast Russia will move to the 
Bering Strait by 4am Sun.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
A weather front continues to move north through the Southern
Interior this evening will bring isolated to scattered showers to
the Interior through Friday, with showers becoming scattered to
widespread over the Western and Northern Interior tonight as the
front moves there tonight and then weakens in place through Friday
night. There will be isolated thunderstorms over the Interior
southeast of Fairbanks Fri and Sat. These showers will cool most
of the Interior into the 60s today, with temps rebounding slightly
on Fri, while the Western Interior, West Coast and North Slope
see little change today through Fri.

.DISCUSSION...
Upper Levels and Analysis...
A persistent upper level low in the high arctic with secondary
lows over Eastern Siberia and over the Southern Bering Sea will
continue to nudge to the east pushing the upper level ridge over
Eastern Alaska and the Yukon further east into Canada through
Friday. A series of shortwaves will move north through the weekend
over Central and Eastern Alaska while a strong shortwave over the
Northern Bering Sea pushes southeast over the West Coast on
Sunday. A deep upper level low forms near Wrangel Island on Sunday
night and Monday and drifts east over the Northwest Coast on
Monday and pushes into the North slope and Northern Interior
Monday and Tuesday. 850 mb temperatures over Fairbanks will drop
from near 7 above this evening to 5 above on Sunday and then drops
below zero by Tuesday. On the Surface a 1021 mb high over the
southern Beaufort Sea will slowly drift east as a weak low forms
over Norton sound. Expect gusty easterly winds along the North
Slope with the strong gradient between the low moving inland from
Norton Sound and the High north of the Northern Coast.

Central and Eastern Interior...
A front pushing north into the Interior this evening has brought
cooler temperatures, mostly cloudy conditions, and light rain to
much of the Interior. The showers will end later this evening in
the southern interior and linger through Friday in the Northern
Interior. A strong shortwave combined with instability on Friday
afternoon and again on Saturday will produce a slight chance of
late season thunderstorms over the Fortymile Country as well as
the Upper and Middle Tanana Valleys. Gusty gap winds in the Alaska
Range Passes will continue into Friday.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Weak low pressure over the West Coast and Western Interior south
of the Seward Peninsula will push over the area from the east
this evening bringing and end to the drier off shore widns as
clouds and showers increase. This front will stall over the area
on Friday continuing the chance of rain over the area. as a
trough pushes into the area, bringing another chance of rain.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Stratus and patchy fog continues along the North Slope, while the
light rain and snow along the Brooks Range moves north over the
coast tonight and Friday. Gusty easterly winds 15 to 30 mph with
gusts to 45 mph. A low develops over the Western North Slope on
Saturday moves over the Chuckchi Sea as a 995 mb low Sunday
morning.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
