A weather front that lies from Gambell to the Bering Strait will
move west to Anadyr by 3am Sun. A weather front that stretches 
from Banks Island to Point Hope will move south to lie along the 
Brooks Range to the Bering Strait by 3pm Sun then remain in place 
through Mon. A strong weather front in the southern Bering Sea
will move north over the Southeast Bering Sea on Sun, and over Norton
Sound on Mon, then weaken through Tue.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
The storm in the Bering Sea and Bering Strait continues to wind
down as a high pressures system in the Yukon moves west into
Northern Alaska producing tranquil conditions with mostly clear
skies, light winds and below normal temperatures dominate most of
northern Alaska through early next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Models, the 12/12z model suite initialized well against the 12z
surface analysis and verified well against the 18z surface
analysis. Model spread is minimal in the short range, reasonable
into early next week, but large spread creeps into the various
model families by the middle of next week with low confidence on
model solutions beyond the middle of next week.

Aloft at 500 hpa, A strong shortwave over the Central Bering Sea
will continue to push north and west and merge with an upper level
trough over the Western Bering Sea Siberia tonight. A 549 dam
high pressure system centered over the McKenzie Delta and the
Yukon will push west and weaken over central Alaska into the
weekend. A 502 dam low over the Aleutians will anchor a deep long
wave trough over the Bering Sea and will spin several weak
shortwaves north into the Eastern Bering Sea and Western Alaska
into the middle of next week. A 535 dam high pressure system
develops over Siberia over the weekend. 850 hpa temperatures will
remain in the 5 to 10 below range over most of the Interior and
combined with mostly clear skies and light winds will produce
below normal temperatures and strong but shallow inversions over
the Interior Valleys into next week.

On the surface, a strong inverted trough currently running south
through the Bering Strait to a 968 mb low over the Central
Aleutians will weaken tonight as it pushes north and west into
Eastern Siberia. This will bring an end to the heavy snow and
strong winds. Expect snow showers and lighter winds in general
through the Eastern Bering Sea and Western Alaska, however there
will remain some gusty localized off shore winds in locations like
Unalakleet as high pressure continues to build into the interior.
A deep low in the Northern Pacific will continue to deepen and
push north to be located just south of Dutch Harbor as a 950 mb
low Saturday afternoon. A front rotating around this low will push
into the Lower YK Delta on Sunday, push into Norton Sound area
Sunday night and through the Bering Strait on Monday of next week
and will bring another round of snow and blowing snow to these
areas. High pressure will dominate the Interior of Alaska through
early next week with mostly clear skies and strong valley
inversions. Temperatures will be below normal into early next
week.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Light snow continues over over portions of the Western North
Slope and Brooks Range along a weak front that will push offshore
this evening. Relatively benign weather conditions will persist
through Sunday, while temperatures will slowly decrease Sunday as
a return of colder temperatures spread across the area.

West Coast and Western Interior...
A weather front that pushed west and north off the the West Coast
continues to move north and west and is just south and east of St
Lawrence Island at this time. The front will continue to push
north and west of the Bering Strait later this evening and will
bring a transition from blizzard conditions and high winds snow
showers and much weaker winds. Local gusty winds are expected
locally along the coast as high pressure continues to build in the
Interior of Alaska especially near Unalakleet and Shaktoolik.
Temperatures will remain below normal into early next week.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Satellite imagery continues to depicts clearing for the Eastern
and Central portions of the Interior while high clouds continue to
push west into the Western Interior. High pressure over the Yukon
continues to build west tonight and tomorrow. The strong gap winds
and Tanana Valley Jet have subsided with only light and variable
winds expected over the Interior through the weekend. Relatively
benign weather conditions will persist across the region for the
remainder of the short term, through the weekend. Strong but
shallow inversions will develop in the Interior Valleys with
strong radiational cooling at night and warmer air aloft moving
into the area.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...
In the extended period beginning Monday, model concensus shows a
strong low moving into the Southern Bering, swinging a front north
that clips the West Coast and Western Interior Monday. This low
will track east, skirting along the Aleutian Islands, into the
Gulf of Alaska Tuesday where it will merge with another low that
quickly moves north to near Prince William Sound on Wednesday into
Thursday. The main low in the Bering will push another weather
front north into the West Coast then east into the Western and
Central Interior, Tuesday and Wednesday, increasing chances of
snow across the region.
