.SYNOPSIS...
The next few days will feel like a real Interior summer with temps
into the 70s and chances for thunderstorms in the afternoon. Out
west, much cooler and unsettled and more spring like as a cold
and anomalous upper level low remains in place. Along the North
Slope, nothing new, with miles upon endless miles of low stratus
and fog.

.DISCUSSION...

Upper Levels and Analysis...
The upper level steering flow looks almost identical to yesterday
with a very deep 528 dam 500 hpa closed low over the Bering
Strait with a weak closed ridge over the Eastern Interior. Light
snow and mixed rain/snow is falling over the Norton Sound area.
Light northerly flow aloft is actually forcing an "offshore" flow
pattern with north winds through the AK Range instead of the more
common southerly winds.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Showers today will once again diminish late this evening with more
clearing overnight over much of the Interior. More nice, 70 degree
weather for most of the Interior tomorrow, but also more
instability as a subtle disturbance aloft passes over. There looks
to be a general light northeast low level flow which is conducive
locally to more active thunderstorms, so recreators and outdoor
folks should keep an eye to the sky, especially around the
Fairbanks area and surrounding hills, as well as toward the
Eastern AK Range and toward Delta Junction.

A front will gradually shift east from the West Coast Monday and
Tuesday, with increased chances for showers and thunderstorms
along this front, which will move from the Central Interior on
Monday to the Eastern Interior and elsewhere Tuesday. This front
will also bring more clouds and gradually cooler temps.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Rain and snow over Norton Sound will gradually move inland
tonight, when a changeover to predominate rain through tomorrow as
the front slowly moves inland. The low will remain stubborn,
however, and will only still be in the vicinity of Norton Sound
by Tuesday, with spiral showers all around it. Expect cooler temps
to very slowly moderate as the upper level low weakens.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Fog and stratus will continue to dominate the region along the
Arctic coast as a general easterly gradient remains. East winds
will strengthen quite a but Sunday night and last through
Tuesday, peaking into the gale force gust range over the eastern
Arctic. Over the Brooks Range, there will continue to be threats
for isolated thunderstorms, mainly over the eastern Brooks, for
the next several days. Increasing showers will develop over the
western Brooks Monday and Tuesday in association with a slow
moving upper level low.

Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
Beginning the extended period forecast Wednesday, there will be a
very anomalous closed upper level low over the West Coast/Interior
with a thermal trough over the far Eastern Interior. In between
and under the upper low there will be extensive showers along with
cooling conditions over the Eastern Interior as the front shifts
east. The slightly cooler and showery pattern persists through the
end of the week before the stubborn upper low finally exits and
some slight ridging builds in aloft for the weekend. This will
likely bring much warmer temps, and possibly, the warmest of the
summer/spring.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Cooler and wet will continue over the West Coast with warmer and
drier out east. Afternoon isolated wet thunderstorm threats will
continue over the Eastern and Central Interior to the eastern
Brooks Range through Monday with a gradual weakening of the
thermal trough Tuesday and beyond as a cooler frontal zone shifts
east. Expect min RH values in the 20s to 30s through Monday before
the cooler temps shift east.

.HYDROLOGY...
Rainfall amounts of almost 1-2 inches have been reported east of
Delta Junction since Thursday. Smaller streams and creeks in the
area will continue to run near bankfull, and that water will be
moving into the mainstem rivers. Expect the upper Tanana River to
start rising as the water moves downstream, however, levels will
remain well below action stage or flood stage. For the latest
