nm NW of Wrangel Island by Wed afternoon. A broad area of low
pressure remains over the Bering Sea with a 992 mb low near Atka
that will move to the Northern Bering Sea Wed with a weather front
extending over St matthew Island, the Pribilofs, and Dutch Harbor.

.SYNOPSIS...
Low stratus and areas of fog will hold tight along the Arctic
Coast and North Slope into Wednesday. For the West Coast, weather
conditions will remain quiet with offshore flow prevailing. Across
the Interior, another beautiful day is in store with mostly clear
skies and highs in the 60s and 70s. The thunderstorm threat will
be confined to the Eastern Interior this afternoon, southeast of
Dot Lake, and again Wednesday afternoon, southeast of Delta
Junction and east of Fort Yukon.

.DISCUSSION...
Upper Levels and Analysis...
Tranquil weather conditions over most of Northern Alaska, south
of the Brooks Range, with mostly clear skies and warm temperatures
as an upper level high sits over Western Alaska. This high is
sandwiched between three low complexes, one over the Eastern Gulf
of Alaska, another in the high Arctic, and the third is a stacked
low in the Western Bering Sea. Models initialized well with these
features, and are in good agreement on how they will evolve
through Thursday. As the day progresses, the high will slide off
to the northwest into the Arctic by Wednesday morning. While the
low in the Arctic sends a series of shortwaves south. The first
today, sweeping across the North Slope, and a second late
Wednesday into Thursday, south across the North Slope into the
Interior. This will lead to chances of snow for the Eastern Arctic
Coast and Brooks Range, with rain and thunderstorm activity in
the Eastern Interior. Otherwise, quiet and warm temperatures will
continue across most of Northern Alaska through Thursday.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Low stratus and areas of fog along the Arctic Coast will persist
into Wednesday, with clearing occuring for some locations inland
and along the Brooks Range. Snow chances increase late Wednesday
night, east of Umiat, along the Arctic Coast south to the Eastern
Brooks Range with a low diving south. Snowfall accumulations
generally 1 to 3 inches, with higher amounts in upslope areas and
higher elevations of the Eastern Brooks Range where 4 to 7 inches
is possible by Friday morning. Near normal temperatures across the
region through Thursday with highs in the low to mid 30s, and
lows in the mid 20s.

West Coast and Western Interior...
High pressure will dominate weather conditions across the region
over the next several days with mostly clear skies and warmer than
normal temperatures along with offshore flow. Any precipitation
will occur primarily south of St. Lawrence Island, over the Bering
Sea. Expect high temperatures in the low 70s inland and the mid
60s along the coast, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Beautiful weather is in store today and again for Wednesday with
mostly clear skies and temperatures climbing into the 60s and 70s
across the region, with lows dipping into the 30s to low 40s. The
exception will be southeast of Dot Lake this afternoon, where
there is the threat of isolated thunderstorms this afternoon, and
again Wednesday afternoon, where isolated thunderstorms will
primarily be confined southeast of Delta Junction and east of Fort
Yukon. By Thursday, a strong shortwave will dive south out of the
Northern Yukon, bringing increased chances of showers and
thunderstorms across the Fortymile Country south to the Eastern
Alaska Range. Temperatures will cool leading into the weekend,
with highs only reaching the mid 50s to low 60s Thursday and
Friday with lows in the 30s and low 40s.

Coastal Hazard Potential for Days 3 and 4...
No concerns at this time.

Extended Forecast for Days 4 through 7...
Beginning the extended period on Friday, a stout shortwave will
dig southwest from the Eastern Beaufort into the Interior with
an associated upper level low tracking into the Bering Sea Monday
morning. This will bring in chances of rain and cooler
temperatures across the Eastern Interior for Friday, where at
higher elevations in the Alaska and Brooks Range snow is
possible. Conditions improve Saturday into early next week with a
rebound in temperatures and drying as weak high pressure builds in.

.FIRE WEATHER...
High pressure across the Interior will continue to create
relatively quiet weather conditions for many locations over the
next several days. With the exception of the Eastern Interior,
where isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon
southeast of Dot Lake and again Wednesday afternoon, southeast of
Delta Junction and east of Fort Yukon. Another round of isolated
thunderstorms Thursday afternoon, primarily south of Central and
east of Fairbanks. Otherwise, high temperatures in the 60s and 70s
for most areas with minimum RH values dipping into the 20s and
30s during the day, with fair overnight recovery.

.HYDROLOGY...
A Flood Watch is in effect for the Sagavanirktok (Sag) River through
Thursday afternoon due to an ice jam creating higher water levels.
Across the Arctic, break up is underway with most rivers running
low according to a recent aerial survey, but ice arched over the
rivers may fall into them and cause issues. Elsewhere, anchored
ice remains in the lower ends of some West Coast rivers. For the
