.SYNOPSIS FOR NORTHWEST COAST...
A front over the West Coast is moving inland. High pressure over
Siberia is pushing E over the Western Chukchi Sea, Bering Strait,
and Northeast Bering Sea. A 1015 mb low will develop over in the
Bering Strait tonight and move over the Chukotsk Peninsula by Thu
afternoon, and the Gulf of Anadyr by Fri morning. High pressure
will persist over the Northeast Bering Sea with a 1018 mb high
near St Matthew Island.

.SYNOPSIS FOR NORTHWEST COAST...
High pressure has pushed SE across the Eastern Bering Sea to
Bristol Bay with a 1021 mb high near St Matthew Island. A 1006 mb
low will move W into the Chukchi Sea Fri. The high pressure will
move into mainland Alaska Friday evening as a low in the North
Pacific moves S of the Aleutians and a 1009 mb low develops near
St Matthew Island. The low in the Chukchi Sea will move into the
Central Chukchi Sea Sat and weaken.

.SYNOPSIS...
A front currently pushing on shore over the Northwest Coast and
Kotzebue Sound and the Western Interior and will continue to push
south and east into the Eastern North Slope Thursday and Central
Interior into Friday and and will bring a chance of snow showers
as well as rain and snow showers over the Central Interior Friday.

&&

.DISCUSSION...

Models...the 28/00z model suite initialized well against the 00z
surface analysis and verified well against the 06z surface
analysis and upper air observations. Models spread is reasonable
in the short range with differences on the strength and
orientation of the longwave pushing south and east over the
Interior showing up in the solutions by the weekend.

Aloft...at 500 hpa a strong longwave trough over Northwestern
Alaska will continue to push south and east into the Interior of
Alaska into the weekend and then retreating westward back over the
Western Interior and West Coast by Sunday. Ridging builds back in
over the Central and Eastern Interior Sunday and Monday and low
pressure aloft dominating the West Coast and Western Interior.

On the Surface...a 1008 mb low over Point Hope will continue to
push east and south merging with a trough over the southern
Interior and North Slope late Thursday and Friday with a broad
area of low pressure found from near Point Barrow to Northway by
Friday. Several inches of snow are expected with this low pressure
system especially along a front that continue to push south and
east into the Western Interior today and Thursday. Generally 1 to
2 inches of snow is expected over the Central and Western
Interior, the West Coast and Western North Slope through Friday.
Lighter accumulations as well as a mix of rain and snow are
expected over the Central Interior.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...A mix of clouds with areas of
dense fog are found on the North Slope. A front currently moving
onto the northwest coast will bring some snow showers to the area,
mainly west of Wainwright. Winds will generally less than 15 mph
will be swinging around to north and northeast. Temperatures will
cool after the front, but highs still in the teens and 20s, while
lows will be in the single digits to lower teens above.

West Coast and Western Interior...Mostly cloudy skies are found
along the West Coast and Western Interior as a front pushes on
shore mainly north of the Lower Yukon Delta with some snow
showers moving into the area this morning. The lower Yukon Delta
and Middle Yukon Valley will see increasing clouds Wednesday with
a slight chance of showers on Thursday. Snowfall amounts through
Friday up to 5 inches from the Seward Peninsula north to the
Brooks Range. Temperatures cooling with highs in the 20s and 30s,
and lows in the teens to lower 20s. Winds variable to 10 mph
becoming northwest as the front moves into the area and increasing
to 10 to 20 mph along the coast.

Central and Eastern Interior...A mix of clouds and partly cloudy
skies continues over the Interior as a weak upper level low slowly
moves east. Expect a clearing trend today for most areas with
temperatures reaching into the 40s and 50s as well as Thursday.
Temperatures will fall under mostly cloudy skies and a chance of
snow and rain showers on Friday. Most locations in the Interior
will have light winds, however the Delta Junction area will have
15 mph winds gusting to around 25 mph on Friday.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...A mix of clouds with some
isolated showers for the Central and Eastern Interior, and the
Eastern Arctic Saturday. then some clearing Saturday night and
Sunday. The troughing will slide west of the state with ridging
moving over the eastern half of the state Sunday. Snow showers
along the West Coast as cooler air is wrapped around the low aloft
over the area through Tuesday. The Interior will be slowly warming
as ridging aloft will move over the area. Thermal trough
development is possible with some isolated showers early next
week.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Cooler temperatures cooler with highs in the 40s
and 50s will continue over the Interior. Relative Humidity values
in the teens, 20s and 30s over the Central and Eastern Interior
today will increase into the 30s and 40s over the all but the
eastern most areas where Relative humidity values will remain in
the 20s Thursday and Friday. Overnight recoveries will remain low
struggle to get into the 60s and 70s tonight, but will increase
into the 70s and 80s Friday night as well as Saturday night.
Winds will generally be light over the interior however, winds
will pick up around Delta Junction Friday to 15 mph gusting to 25
mph, and Relative Humidity values will be falling into the 30
percent range. No Wetting rains expected, but there is a chance of
showers Friday.

.HYDROLOGY....Hydrology...Many streams and creeks continue to run
high, but currently no flooding issues. Some minor ice dams have
been reported, most notable on the Chena River near the Illinois
Street Bridge, but with no impacts at this time. The cooler
afternoon temperatures the next couple days will help slow breakup
and allow meltwater to make it into the mainstem rivers. River
Ice will continue to break down faster than lake ice, but extreme
caution should be used around all bodies of water. Most of the
Fortymile river has cleared and the ice has moved into the Yukon
