.SYNOPSIS FOR ARCTIC COAST...
High pressure extends northwest over the Central and Western 
Arctic and will slide E as a weak weather front in the Chukchi Sea
moves NE into the Arctic. By Thu afternoon high pressure will be 
over the Beaufort Sea and the Arctic Coast with a 1030 mb high 
near MacKenzie Bay and the front will lie from Prudhoe Bay NW 
across the Arctic.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Another warm and nice day across the Northland as a ridge of high
pressure aloft dominates. This ridge will give way to a sharp
trough which will dig southeast tonight and tomorrow, crossing the
ALCAN border tomorrow evening. This will bring blowing snow to the
North Slope and blizzard conditions to the Eastern Arctic Coast.
Temps will drop back to near normal for the Eastern Interior
tomorrow with cold temps Wednesday morning with more warming and
dry weather for the remainder of the week.

.DISCUSSION...

Upper Levels and Analysis...
A dominant 571 dam upper level high remains over the Yukon
Territory with a ridge axis extending across the entire Mainland.
A sharp upper level trough is tracking southeast toward the
northwest Arctic Coast this afternoon. Winds are already switching
to the west along/behind this cold front associated with the
trough. Otherwise, dry and warm temps dominate the Interior once
again

Central and Eastern Interior...
Another warm day as temps skyrocket well above average with
widespread 50s and some low 60s anticipated again. Just for
reference, the record high at Fairbanks today is 66, and we will
be pushing into the low 60s, so these temps are quite anomalous.
Tomorrow, things change as a cold front pushes through, dropping
temps 10-20 degrees F, with snow south and east of the Fairbanks
area, favoring the AK Range and Fortymile Uplands. Gusty northwest
winds will also push through the Upper Tanana Valley and into
Northway as the front pushes through, possibly supporting brief
snow squalls as well. The front clears out Tuesday evening,
leaving behind chilly overnight temps with clearing and warming
returning right away on Wednesday as high pressure builds back in.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Strong north winds are already developing and will reach peak
intensity tonight then remain gusty through tomorrow in
conjunction with cooling temps as this cold front sweeps through.
The strongest winds will reach into the 50 MPH range across the
Yukon Delta to Norton Sound as well as Saint Lawrence Island. Dry
weather continues and warming temps redevelop for the rest of the
week.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
The expected front is moving across the West Arctic and will bring
snow and blowing snow to the East Arctic and Brooks Range tonight,
with blizzard conditions anticipated from Point Thompson east.
Gusty north winds will also blow through Atigun Pass, with light
snow and blowing snow all the way to the northern Brooks Range
owing to favorable upslope flow. Snow and blowing snow end Tuesday
night with mostly dry high pressure dominating. Much warmer temps
build back in again Wednesday and Thursday.

Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
High pressure will build back in leading to more dry and
anomalously warm weather for the Mainland Thursday and into the
weekend. No storms are anywhere on the horizon as spring marches
forward.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
