A 1010 mb low in the northeast Interior of Alaska will slowly
weaken through Sat. A 1000 mb low 100 NM south of Cape Navarin 
will move to St Matthew Island as a 1005 mb low by 4pm Fri, then 
into Bristol Bay by 4am Sat. A strong low moving into the Western
Bering Sea on Sat will move to the Central Bering Sea on Sun.

High pressure over the Eastern Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea will
move E as a 972 mb low moves into the Western Bering Sea. A
weather front will move to St Lawrence Island Early Sun morning
and to the Norton Sound Region by Sun afternoon as the low moves 
to the Dateline Sun afternoon at 982 mb. The low will continue to
St Lawrence Island Mon morning at 988 mb.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
An active weather pattern will continue over Northern Alaska with
a series of quick moving storms bringing periods of snow and
blowing snow through early next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Models...The 25/12z model suite initialized well against the 12
surface analysis as far as feature locations however the depth of
the low near Prudhoe Bay was again several mb too shallow. Winds
in the latest forecast package were adjusted along the North
Slope to compensate. Model spread both from run to run and from
model family to model family remains small into the weekend but
begins to display considerable spread by Tuesday of next week.

Aloft...
Northern Alaska remains in a westerly flow pattern that will
cause several periods of snow and blowing snow over much of the
area though next week. The long wave pattern consists of a trough
that stretches from the North Pole south across the Chukchi and
Bering Seas, Eastern Russia and the Sea of Okhotsk, with a ridge
over the Eastern Pacific and Gulf of Alaska. The long wave trough
will move east over the West Coast of Alaska Fri and over Eastern
Alaska on Sat with a ridge building over the West Coast Sat. A
second long wave trough will move over the Western Bering Sea on
Sat, over the Eastern Bering Sea on Sun, then spread over mainland
Alaska Mon and Tue. There will be generally stormy and snowy
weather just ahead of each trough.

Surface...
A low pressure trough extending south and west to near
Demarcation Point and the Eastern Portions of the Brooks Range
from a low north of Banks Island will push east tonight as a 1025
mb ridge currently over Eastern Siberia builds east over the North
Slope tonight and Friday. The weak low in the Eastern Brooks
Range will continue to push east as weak troughing remains over
the Central and Eastern Interior. A 999 mb low over the Central
Bering Sea will push east into the Lower YK Delta Friday night and
Saturday and will bring another round of snow and blowing snow to
the area. A 976 mb low in the Central Bering Sea on Sunday
morning will push a strong front east and north onto the West
Coast Sunday and Monday and will bring anther round of heavy snow,
blowing snow and strong winds Sunday to the southern portions of
the West Coast and Western Interior and Monday for the northern
portions of the West Coast and Western Interior.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
North winds in the 10 to 20 mph range will continue tonight as
high pressure over Eastern Siberia continues to build into the
area. Expect mostly cloudy skies with flurries or light snow
through Friday as well as seasonal temperatures into the weekend.

West Coast and Western Interior...
A break between storms tonight and most of Friday before another
round of snow and blowing snow moves into the area. Expect
increasing clouds and a chance of light snow on Friday afternoon
and Friday night as the next low in a series of low pressure
systems pushes east into the lower YK Delta. 1 to 2 inches of snow
is expected along with areas of reduced visibility in blowing snow
Friday night and Saturday. A much stronger front pushes into the
area on sunday with blizzard or near blizzard conditions expected
to develop along the coast south of the Bering Strait Sunday. Snow
and blowing snow is expected to develop late Sunday and continue
into Monday along the West Coast north of the Bering Strait and
the Western Interior Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Snowfall continues ahead of a front that is slowly pushing east
through the Central and Eastern Interior. An additional 1 to 3
inches is expected with the heaviest snowfall expected just north
and west of Fairbanks through this evening. Snow will diminish
from west to east tonight as the front weakens and pushes slowly
to the east moving into Canada tomorrow afternoon. Winds over the
highway summits and higher terrain will diminish tonight as the
front pushes east into Canada.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
