.SYNOPSIS...

The main weather headline is ongoing blizzard conditions from St.
Lawrence Island north to the Chukchi Sea Coast that will continue
throughout today. Very cold temperatures continuing in the
Central and Eastern Interior this morning, with a warming trend
expected to occur going into next week.

.DISCUSSION...

Aloft, a highly amplified pattern consists of a strong ridge over
mainland Alaska, with closed lows centered over the Gulf of Anadyr
and Gulf of Alaska near the panhandle this morning. The two closed
lows will work to weaken the ridge and eventually merge into one
elongated trough stretching from the Bering Sea east into the
Northwest Territories by the end of the weekend. A portion of the
ridge will remain north of the Arctic Coast beginning this
afternoon before moving north into the high Arctic by Monday
morning.

At 850 mb, cold temperatures ranging from -20C to -26C remains
over the Central and Eastern Interior, supporting the cold
temperatures across this region this morning. Warmer temperatures
between -4C to -10C stretches from the Bering Sea north to Wrangel
Island will move east over northern Alaska, resulting in a warming
trend for most areas going into next week. This warmer airmass
will moderating throughout the beginning portions of the week,
resulting in temperatures that range from -12C to -20C by Tuesday.

At the surface, strong high pressure dominates over the Interior,
while a decaying low in the far western Bering Sea is causing
issues across portions of the West Coast. The front associated
with this low is bringing strong southerly flow from St. Lawrence
Island north through the Chukchi Sea Coast resulting in blizzard
conditions. Minor snow accumulations are expected with this front
as it moves east into portions of the Western Interior before
stalling on Sunday. Quiet weather conditions expected going into
the work week as most areas will remain precipitation free.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Cold temperatures occurring again this morning as high pressure
across the region are keeping skies clear. Temperatures expected
to warm as a warmer airmass moves in from the west today. Chances
for snow remain low throughout the weekend and into next week. A
Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Dalton Highway in
areas of higher terrain due to reduced visibilities in blowing
snow to a half mile or less. Southerly gap winds will develop
tomorrow with gusts to 45 mph through tomorrow night.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Generally quiet and clear conditions east of Point Lay this
morning. For Point Lay west, strong south flow is bringing snow
and blowing snow issues that will persist into tonight. South
winds will pick up in the Brooks Range near Atigun Pass today,
with gusts up to 40 mph. Temperatures remaining below normal along
the eastern Arctic Coast, while the central and western Arctic
Coast will be near or above normal for today.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Blizzard conditions continue for St. Lawrence Island north through
the Bering Strait Coast and Chukchi Sea Coast this morning. Very
strong southerly flow that caused 80 mph gusts overnight will
slowly subside going into tonight as the front pushes east into
the Western Interior tonight. Snow accumulations with this front
will remain in the 1 to 3 inch range before the front stalls and
dissipates by Sunday night. Temperatures expected to be at or
above normal going into next week.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
