The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Ben Hill County in south central Georgia...
  Berrien County in south central Georgia...
  Cook County in south central Georgia...
  Irwin County in south central Georgia...
  Tift County in south central Georgia...
  Turner County in south central Georgia...

* Until 315 AM EDT.

* At 1238 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the 
  warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin 
  shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

  SOURCE...Doppler radar.

  IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
           highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
           drainage and low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Tifton, Ocilla, Fitzgerald, Nashville, Adel, Ashburn, Sparks, 
  Enigma, Omega, Ray City, Lenox, Ty Ty, Alapaha, Mystic, 
  Unionville, Phillipsburg, Worth, Sycamore, Cecil and Rebecca.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the 
warned area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding.

.NEAR [Through Thursday]...

The track of Sally will move to the northeast across southeast
Alabama tonight and then across central Georgia on Thursday. While
Sally will continue to weaken at it moves further inland, we will
still experience impacts across our forecast area. The main impacts
tonight will be possible tropical storm force winds, mainly in gusts
for the zones still under tropical storm warnings. Isolated
tornadoes in the rain bands will also be possible and the threat has
been expanded further eastward to include all counties in our CWA
until 7 pm EDT.

However, the greatest concern for tonight and on Thursday will be
ongoing flooding with the threat for additional flooding from very
heavy downpours. A Flash Flood Watch continues in effect for most of
the western half of our GA zones, SE AL, and our Florida counties
from Leon and Wakulla westward through Thursday morning. For a
list of active watches, warnings, and advisories, please scroll to
the bottom of this discussion product. PoPs will be likely to
categorical (70-90%) tonight and Thursday but will begin to taper
off from west to east during the day on Thursday.

.SHORT TERM [Thursday Night Through Friday Night]...

The remnants of Sally will pick up forward speed and get absorbed
in a cold front as it passes through the Carolina's on Friday. This
front is forecast to move into at least the northern portion of our
CWA Friday/Friday night with rain chances diminishing from north to
south.

.LONG TERM [Saturday Through Wednesday]...

The aforementioned cold front is forecast to continue to press
southward and through our forecast area by Saturday with a cooler
fall like airmass filtering in from behind. However, rain chances may
continue as models show an overrunning event setting up with
northeast flow in the lower levels and southwest winds aloft.
Highs through the period will mostly be in the 70s with lows
dropping into the upper 50s to lower 60s Sunday night into early
next week.

.AVIATION...
[Through 18Z Thursday]

Outer bands from Hurricane Sally are currently impacting DHN & TLH
with +RA, while ECP is seeing SHRA. The eastern band will
approach ABY and VLD over the next couple hrs, while ECP is seeing
lighter rain. The western band likely affects TLH & ABY later
this afternoon. As Sally continues tracking NNE, the heaviest rain
should shift to the northern terminals. Strongest winds will be
at DHN (possibly sustained at 30 kts from 0-6Z). MVFR conds, on/off
RA, and gusty winds are forecast, with IFR cigs/vsbys within bands.

.MARINE...

Hurricane Sally has moved inland but continues to generate
dangerous seas across the northeast Gulf of Mexico. Winds will
gradually diminish but seas will likely remain elevated at
advisory levels across the western waters through Thursday night.
Winds and seas are expected to be below headline criteria Friday
through Saturday before ramping up to at least cautionary levels
by Sunday as the gradient tightens up across the waters behind a
cold front.

.HYDROLOGY...

With widespread rains from Hurricane Sally, many of our rivers
will likely rise towards flood stage through this week and into
next week. Currently, warnings are issued for the Choctawhatchee
at Bruce, Pea at Ariton and Shoal at Mossy Head. Expect more rises
into flood in these basins and additional basins with time.

Upgraded the coastal flood advisory to a storm surge warning for
2-4 ft surge at the coast in Walton and Bay counties. Further
along the coast, no changes needed with 1-3 feet still expected.
