...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT MDT
TONIGHT...

* WHAT...Dangerous early season heat with daily temperatures of
  103 to 106 degrees around St George area, and 100 to 103 in and
  around Zion Canyon.

* WHERE...Utahs Dixie and Zion National Park.

* WHEN...Until midnight MDT tonight.

* IMPACTS...Extreme heat will significantly increase the 
  potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those 
  working or participating in outdoor activities.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...In addition to high daytime temperatures, 
  nighttime temperatures will only briefly bottom out in the low 
  70s offering very little overnight relief. Those without 
  access to air conditioning will be more vulnerable to heat 
  related illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

.SYNOPSIS...High pressure aloft over Utah on Friday will produce
hot, mid-summer conditions. This high pressure will move east of
the area Saturday, with hot and breezy conditions along with
scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms
through the weekend.

.DISCUSSION...A strong ridge encompassing much of the Interior
West remains in place this evening, maintaining a very warm
airmass across the forecast area. Daytime heating allowed isolated
convection to form over the higher terrain of southern Utah as
well as eastern Nevada, however this activity has quickly
dissipated this evening. This ridge axis will shift slightly
eastward Friday allowing for an increase in high based moisture,
while maintaining a very warm airmass across the area. As such
will likely see greater convective coverage Friday afternoon
across the area. Going forecast looks in good shape this evening
and no updates are planned.

KSLC through the morning hours Friday.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the western two thirds of
Utah and southwest Wyoming.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Excessive heat develops across southwest Utah today, with
temperatures running about 20 degrees above average. Overnight
temperatures will remain in the 70s tonight providing little
relief from the heat.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday

Excessive heat continues for southwest Utah on Friday, while it
becomes quite hot across the rest of the state with daytime high
temperatures running about 20 degrees above average.

The combination of near record temperatures and poor overnight
recover expected Friday night along the Wastach Front may reach
Heat Advisory criteria.

Southwesterly winds will increase late Friday through Saturday,
with gusts 40 to 50 mph possible Saturday across much of western
Utah.

Strong winds may also support critical fire weather conditions
as early as late Friday in Southwest Utah. The potential for
widespread critical fire weather conditions will be highest on
Saturday, but the potential will linger into Sunday and possibly
Monday.

Spotter activation may be needed. Please relay any information
about observed severe weather to the NWS while following all
