.SYNOPSIS...A west to southwest flow aloft will continue through
the week, maintaining seasonal temperatures and generally dry
conditions across the area.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Morning water vapor satellite imagery paints a nice
swath of dry air pushing through southern Nevada into southern
Utah and a weak area of moisture amongst zonal flow sliding
through northern Utah. Temperatures are seeing little change
compared to 24-hours ago with a slight cooling of 2-4 degrees
across the northwest corner of Utah with a weak boundary that
continues to push south this morning.
This afternoon should present some isolated opportunities for
terrain driven convection in the northern Wasatch mountains where
the best lift and surface gradient reside along with the best, yet
marginal, moisture will be positioned. Given the antecedent dry
conditions in place, any winds that develop in and around
convection development could pose fire weather threats. The going
Red Flag Warning will remain through tonight. No updates to the
forecast this morning.
Tuesday the concerns for fire weather threats will shift to
southern Utah where a weak shortwave ejects into southern Utah
bringing an increase to winds in an already very dry environment.
The challenge today will be to look at upgrading this fire weather
watch in place to a Red Flag and see what needs to be dealt with
for later in the week.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions will prevail across the SLC terminal
through the valid TAF period. Light southerly flow will switch to
the north around 18z and remain light at less than 10 knots.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER (Issued at 455 am MDT)...A west to southwest flow
aloft will remain in place through the week with weak weather
disturbances crossing the area at times. Moisture remains limited,
so any showers kicked off by the weak disturbances will be fairly
isolated and high- based, producing little or no measurable rain.
Critical fire weather conditions due to gusty winds and low
humidities are expected today across the Wasatch mountains and
mountain valleys, with localized critical fire weather conditions
possibly persisting there through much of the week. Meanwhile,
southern Utah may also see critical fire weather conditions due to
gusty winds and low humidity tomorrow, with a potential for this
to continue through midweek.
