* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 488 Manti National Forest... 
  Fire Weather Zone 493 Central Utah Mountains and Fire Weather 
  Zone 496 Color Country Mountains.

* IMPACTS...Lightning accompanied by little or no rainfall in 
  areas of critically dry fuels could result in new fire starts.

* THUNDERSTORMS...Developing continuing through mid-evening.
 
* OUTFLOW WINDS...Thunderstorm wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now...or are imminent. A combination of
lightning...dry fuel conditions...and gusty microburst winds will
create favorable conditions for new fire starts and extreme fire
behavior.

.SYNOPSIS...An increase in moisture Thursday will bring scattered
showers and thunderstorms to the mountains for the afternoon and
evening hours. High pressure will expand west into the Great
Basin heading into the upcoming weekend.

.DISCUSSION...A mid level ridge axis extends from the southern
Plains into the Four Corners region this evening, while a
lingering surface trough extends across central Utah. Cooler and
more stable air resides north of this boundary where max temps
once again remained just a bit below climo along the Wasatch
Front. Meanwhile just enough mid level moisture rotating around
the periphery of the upper ridge allowed for a cluster of high
based convection across the central mountains late this afternoon
into this evening. This activity has since diminished, however
moisture currently working its way northward across Arizona will
spread into the area Thursday bringing better coverage of
afternoon and evening convection. In the mean time convective
debris across central/southern Utah should dissipate over the next
few hours. Updated earlier to adjust PoPs/Wx based on radar and
satellite trends, otherwise going forecast looks in good shape.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions will prevail at KSLC through the TAF
period, with northwest winds switching back to the southeast after
06Z.

Utah and southwest Wyoming.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Isolated thunderstorms over mainly the mountains of central and
southern Utah this afternoon could produce locally gusty winds.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

Thunderstorm coverage will increase from south to north across the
state on Thursday, and will result in little rainfall but will be
capable of strong gusty winds. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms
will be possible again on Friday.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation may be needed. Please relay any information
about observed severe weather to the NWS while following all
local, state, and CDC guidelines.
