What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this high wind warning went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

Area forecast discussion, Jun 26, 9:44 PM MDT, 5 hours 39 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT
944 PM MDT Fri Jun 26 2020

.SYNOPSIS...Weak high pressure will bring warmer and drier weather
across the state Saturday. A stronger and unseasonably cold storm
system will impact much of the Great Basin and northern Rockies
Sunday through early next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM (Through 12Z Monday)...The mid-level deformation axis
that served as the focus for convection this afternoon is
weakening as the upper low over southern Nevada shifts south and
evolves into an open wave for later tonight. The residual shower
and thunderstorm activity this evening should end around midnight.

A shortwave ridge ahead of the strengthening cold upper trough
over BritCol will move east into Utah Saturday. This high
pressure will bring dry, summer-like conditions to the state to
begin the weekend.

Big changes will commence Sunday as an unseasonably cold and
potent storm system drops south into the Pacific Northwest on
Sunday, then continues on into the Great Basin/northern Rockies
Sunday night. Strong southerly winds will develop ahead of the
cold front associated with this system on Sunday. Near 700 mb
wind speeds in the 45 to 55 knot range with strong pressure falls
along the cold front across northwest Utah will produce very
strong southerly winds across the western valleys on Sunday. A
High Wind Watch is currently in effect for Sunday, with fairly
high confidence this will be upgraded to a warning for Sunday
afternoon/early evening.

By late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening, the cold front will
sweep through northwest Utah. It is possible that winds may
approach advisory levels in northwest Utah both ahead of and
behind the cold front passage. This cold front will usher in
much cooler temperatures. Sunday high temperatures will still
run near average, with Monday's temperatures taking a dramatic
drop to around 15 to 20 degrees below average across northern and
central Utah.

.LONG TERM (After 12Z Monday)...The deepening Pacific Northwest
low will continue tracking south through the Great Basin and begin
to shear apart stretching southward through the Desert Southwest.
Gusty south winds will continue across southern and eastern Utah.
Upwards of 50 kts of wind at 500mb will be well mixed ahead of
the front as it slides southeast by late Monday. The airmass will
be dry ahead of the front and thus continuing the elevated fire
weather conditions into Monday. Cooler air behind the upper level
front will slide into Utah Monday bringing daytime high
temperatures well below seasonal normal and some 20 or more
degrees cooler than weekend temperatures. The bulk of the moisture
will lag behind the initial front and looks to be confined to
northern Utah especially along the Idaho border into Tuesday.
around
By Wednesday the trough moves east, begins to flatten and weaken
behind the best synoptic lift and the airmass gradually warms. By
late in the week daytime temperatures will warm back up to seasonal
normal under much quieter weather conditions.

&&

.AVIATION...The stable air mass across northern Utah will maintain
VFR conditions under mostly clear skies through Saturday Light
southeast Winds will persist through Saturday morning, then switch
to the northwest between 18z and 20z.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...High pressure will build over the area Saturday
resulting in warmer temperatures, and will also limit afternoon
thunderstorms to just a few isolated over the higher terrain in
southern and central Utah.

The focus turns to the strong storm system moving into the
northern Rockies Sunday. Critical to high-end critical fire
weather conditions across the state, especially across western and
southern Utah where wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible and RH
values below 15 percent are expected. For northwest Utah, pre-
frontal southwest winds will see a sharp shift to northwest winds
by late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. Otherwise, critical
fire weather conditions across much of the state Sunday will
transition to mainly southern and eastern portions of the state on
Monday as the cold front moves through northwestern Utah, bringing
much cooler temperatures. Also of concern will be any lightning
hold overs from recent storms that could trigger a fire start
during these critical fire conditions.

The storm system will linger over the area Tuesday, maintaining
cool temperatures and unsettled weather across northern/central
Utah. Thereafter, expect a warming and drying trend throughout the
forecast area.
