Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 615 PM CDT Thu Jul 30 2020 .AVIATION... /00Z TAFS/ Showers and storms will be possible mainly north of I-20 through 12Z, then south of I-20 12Z today through 00Z Sat. Low confidence in storms impacting any TAF sites, except KABI where moderate confidence exists for storms impacting them tonight. Any storms can produce strong and erratic winds, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall resulting in TEMPO IFR/LIFR conditions. Also, between 11Z and 17Z, MVFR CIGs will be possible along the I-10 corridor, with KJCT and KSOA likely affected. Otherwise, expecting VFR conditions through 00Z Sat. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 250 PM CDT Thu Jul 30 2020/ SHORT TERM... (Tonight and Friday) A disturbance moving across the Plains will swing a cold front across the region. This combined with the passing low pressure will create conditions that are more favorable for thunderstorm development. In fact, we could see a strong to severe thunderstorm develop tonight and into Friday as well. The primary hazards are damaging winds and hail. Expect these storms to be across areas north of a Sterling City to Brownwood line. Otherwise, look for slightly cooler temperatures for Friday afternoon. Overnight lows will settle into the low to mid 70s tonight. LONG TERM... (Friday night through Thursday) Showers and thunderstorms will linger across southern portions of the forecast area Friday night. Some of the stronger storms will be capable of producing locally strong downburst winds mainly Friday evening. The weekend looks dry for the most part, although can't rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm along and south of Interstate 10 Saturday afternoon. High temperatures this weekend will range from the lower 90s across the Big Country, to the mid and upper 90s elsewhere, with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s. The next shot at precipitation will be Sunday night into Monday, when another front is expected to affect portions of the area. For now, will maintain low POPs, along with slightly cooler temperatures. Dry and hot weather returns by the middle of next week, as the upper level ridge begins to strengthen over the region.
