Area forecast discussion, Jun 4, 9:27 AM PDT, 4 hours 3 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA
927 AM PDT Thu Jun 4 2020

.SYNOPSIS...
One more day of above normal temperatures can be expected in the
deserts before cooling Friday through the weekend , while a deep
marine layer helps start the cooling trend west of the mountains
today. An area of low pressure will move over Southern California
Friday night and Saturday, deepening the marine layer, bringing a
chance of light showers west of the mountains, and gusty winds over
and east of the mountains. Early next week, an area of high pressure
to our south will begin to build and strengthen, sparking a
warming trend through the middle to end of next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

Satellite imagery from this morning shows an eddy churning over the
coastal waters and low cloud coverage well into the western valleys.
Low clouds will continue to clear out of the valleys this morning,
but a 10 degree marine inversion will make clearing at the coast
partial and intermittent. Hot conditions can be expected again today
in the deserts, with highs between 108 and 112 in the low deserts
and in the mid to upper 90s in the High Desert. West of the
mountains cooler conditions can be expected with high temperatures
5 to 10 degrees cooler than yesterday.

An upper level low to the southwest will move toward Southern
California Friday night, with a trough pattern staying over the
West Coast through the weekend. The incoming low will bring enough
moisture to the area for a slight chance of showers west of the
mountains Friday night into Saturday. The increase in onshore flow will
maintain a deep the marine layer through Sunday and generate
gusty west to southwest winds over the mountains and into the
deserts Friday and Saturday. The marine layer will continue to
extend well into the coastal basin Sunday, but temperatures will
begin to warm to near seasonal normal.

As a ridge of high pressure begins to build from our south, the
marine layer will become shallower on Monday, and very limited
through the middle of next week. Areas of weak offshore flow may
develop at times early to mid-week, which could bring temperatures
west of the mountains around 10 degrees above normal. In the deserts
temperatures will stay at to slightly above normal. The offshore
winds could become locally gusty on the coastal slopes of the
mountains and below passes and canyons.

intersects terrain. Clearing through 18Z, but only partial or brief
clearing near the coast. Low clouds to move ashore and inland after
00Z, spreading into valleys overnight. Bases 1000-1500 feet MSL and
tops to 2000 ft MSL.

&&

.MARINE...
No marine weather hazards are expected through Saturday morning.
Winds increase later Saturday and especially Sunday. Hazardous
conditions for small craft will be possible in the outer waters
