.SYNOPSIS...Active weather will continue over the next week as a
series of weather systems move across the area. Rain tonight and
Thursday will be enough for a few rivers flowing off the Cascades
and Olympics to reach flood stage. Periods of rain will then
continue for the remainder of the week and much of the weekend,
preventing rivers from experiencing much recovery.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...A warm front will stall
over the area tonight with rain at times. Rain has tapered a bit
over the lowlands this evening but it should pick up again later
tonight. There has also been a fairly pronounced rain shadow
northeast of the Olympics in west to southwest flow aloft. Snow
levels should rise to 6000-7000 feet tonight but easterly flow
will keep snow down to pass levels until late this evening. The
cold air in the passes should mix later tonight with snow turning
to rain. It will also be breezy to locally windy coast and north
interior tonight but nothing too impactful.
The atmospheric river over the area will slowly shift inland as a
cold front Thursday and Thursday night. The prolonged period of
rain and high snow levels will result in river flooding concerns.

Some showers will linger over the area on Friday in the wake of
the cold front with snow levels lowering to 4000-4500 feet.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...Previous
discussion...Progressive pattern across the Pacific essentially
paves the way for a parade of storms to pass across western
Washington thru the extended. The first in this series of storm
systems will be on Sunday. Given current model runs, this system
looks rather interesting (tho it is still far out). A negative
tilt shortwave trough approaches the area from the south, with a
rather robust sfc low associated with it. Will need to monitor
this system for another round of rain and perhaps strong winds.
After the passage of this system another shortwave is on tap for
Monday, with yet another round of rain. There may be a brief break
between systems Tuesday but wet conditions look to return quickly
on Wednesday.

.AVIATION...The flow aloft will be west tonight with a warm front
stalling over the area. The front will start to shift inland as a
cold front on Thursday with the flow aloft becoming southwest.
The air mass is moist and stable. Low clouds will be widespread
with occasional reduced visibilities in rain.
KSEA...Low clouds tonight and Thursday. Visibilities should be
reduced at times in rain later tonight and Thursday. Southerly

.MARINE...A warm front will stall over the area tonight then move
inland as a cold front Thursday and Thursday night. Gales are
likely for the Coastal Waters late tonight and Thursday morning
with small craft advisory strength winds all other waters. Winds
will ease a bit later Thursday. The pattern will remain active
into early next week with additional weather systems crossing the
area every day or two.
In addition, highs astronomical tides and somewhat low
atmospheric pressure could lead to a few spots of minor tidal
overflow the next few mornings. Schneider

.HYDROLOGY...A period of warming, rising snow levels, and heavy
rain in the mountains will force sharp rises on the rivers flowing
off the Olympics and Cascades in western Washington and increase
the risk for landslides across the area. Snow levels will rise to
around 5,000 to 7,000 feet with 4 to 6 inches of rain in the
mountains today through Saturday. Minor flooding is possible on
several rivers as a result. The Skokomish River, which may reach
moderate flood stage tonight or Thursday, will likely remain in
flood into the weekend. The remainder of rivers may be flowing
high through the rest of the weekend. Another period of warm and
wet weather may renew the river flooding threat early next week.
