.SYNOPSIS...
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop each afternoon
and evening this weekend from Reno-Tahoe southward to Mono
County. Thunderstorms may be more widespread Monday and Tuesday.
Winds will remain light, expect for afternoon zephyr breezes and
the occasional outflow winds from stronger thunderstorms.

.DISCUSSION...

Main focus the next few days is the position of the trough along
the California coast. Simulations move the trough into northern
California by Tuesday, which could lead to stronger instability
and lift for thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday. Afternoon highs
will remain in the 90s to near 100 for the NV valleys and 80s to
low 90s in the Sierra. There should be a touch of cooling by the
middle of next week.

For this weekend...Thunderstorms remain focused near the Sierra
from Reno-Tahoe southward to Mono County. This includes Storey,
Lyon and Douglas Counties. With little flow aloft to push the
thunderstorms along, heavy rain will occur with the strong storms
with debris flows not out of the question if a storm lingers over
steep terrain or a recently burned slope. Hail and outflow winds
over 40 mph are also possible.

For Monday and Tuesday...As the poorly defined low approaches the
CA coast some cooling aloft and perhaps a jet segment rounding
the base of the low will add to the strong surface heating. This
should produce more organized storms and higher potential for
severe weather. However the track of poorly defined lows are
difficult to forecast so confidence in a widespread thunderstorm
event is low-medium for now.

Trough should move inland by Wednesday-Thursday, which should
bring a some drier southwest flow into the region and decrease the
thunderstorm chances. Brong

.AVIATION...
Thunderstorms will remain possible in the afternoon and evening
for the next few days. Heavy rain, hail, and outflow winds over
40 kts are possible. This weekend storms should remain from near
RNO-TRK southward to MMH. Thundstorms may be a bit more
widespread Monday and Tuesday as low pressure move into northern
California. Some afternoon breezes are possible this next couple
days, but are not expected to be overly impactful.

...THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING OVER THE SIERRA THIS AFTERNOON...

Thunderstorms are beginning to form along the Sierra from Lake Tahoe
south to Mammoth. Small hail, gusty winds in excess of 40 mph,
lightning, and brief heavy rainfall will be possible with these
storms. If a storm with heavy rain lingers over a recent burn scar,
flash flooding is possible.

Storms are expected to continue through this evening, possibly
shifting east into Douglas, Southern Lyon, and western Mineral
Counties.

Locations impacted include...
South Lake Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes, Bridgeport, Lee Vining, Twin Lakes,
Bodie, Chalfant, Toms Place, Crowley Lake, Sonora Pass, Mono Lake,
Coleville, Benton, June Lake, Bridgeport Reservoir, Robinson Creek
Campground, Tioga Pass, Conway Summit, Walker and Meyers.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

During a thunderstorm, seek shelter inside a sturdy structure and
stay away from windows. Hikers and campers should seek shelter in a
vehicle if possible. Stay away from creeks and streams as water
levels may rise rapidly near thunderstorms.

...STRONG THUNDERSTORM EAST OF MINDEN...

At 522 PM PDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Gardnerville. This storm was nearly stationary.

Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph, small hail and brief moderate to heavy
rainfall will be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Gardnerville, Gardnerville Ranchos, Johnson Lane, Minden-Tahoe
Airport, Junction U.S 395 And NV 756, Junction Nv 88 And Nv 756,
Junction Nv 88 And Nv 206, Gardnerville Ranch, Minden and Mount
Siegel.
