Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Raleigh NC 132 PM EDT Sun Aug 9 2020 NCZ023-040-091815- Chatham NC-Alamance NC- 132 PM EDT Sun Aug 9 2020 ...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL AFFECT SOUTHERN ALAMANCE AND NORTHWESTERN CHATHAM COUNTIES UNTIL 215 PM EDT... At 131 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Siler City, moving east at 15 mph. Wind gusts up to 40 mph will be possible with this storm. Heavy rain and minor flooding will also be possible with this storm. Locations impacted include... Siler City, Staley, Sutphin, Saxapahaw and Snow Camp. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Seek shelter in a nearby building or vehicle. Wind gusts as high as 40 mph are capable of knocking down tree limbs and blowing around trash cans, potted plants, lawn furniture and other light outdoor objects. Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning, especially in urban areas where prolonged heavy rain can quickly lead to flooding. && LAT...LON 3569 7925 3568 7955 3588 7954 3596 7929 TIME...MOT...LOC 1731Z 255DEG 15KT 3577 7948 23
