.SYNOPSIS...
Highs will be somewhat cooler Friday, but still well above
normal, and there will be considerable high cloudiness as well.
A drastic cool down is expected Saturday as a low pressure system
moves through the region. It will also bring windy conditions and
a chance of rain. Another system will follow closely behind on
Sunday bringing a better chance of precipitation. That second
system is expected to exit the region by late Monday. Below
normal temperatures will continue through much of next week.

.DISCUSSION...
As anticipated, PHX broke the daily high temperature record for
the date with a high of 98 so far (previous record 93 set in
2007). Turns out, that's also a record for PHX's highest
temperature in November. Further west, such as the Lower Colorado
River Valley and far southeast California, they haven't been quite
as hot (still in the 90s though) due at least in part to having
more cirrus. The strong high pressure responsible for the
unseasonably warm conditions will be on the way out as a low
pressure system (currently centered west of Seattle) dives
south-southeastward. Highs will start to trend down Friday but
remain above normal. There will also be a good deal of high
cloudiness.

The biggest change in temperatures will be felt on Saturday as a
cold front sweeps through (arriving in southeast California late
Friday night). It will drop afternoon temperatures Saturday into
the mid 60s to around 70. For some areas, including Phoenix, the
calendar day high will probably occur shortly after midnight
(Friday night) due to the cold air advection. Moisture with this
first system will not be overwhelming. There are model differences
on just how much moisture will be available depending upon how
much can be stripped off of Tropical Storm Odalys (centered well
southwest of the southern tip of Baja). There is already some
upper tropospheric moisture from Odalys approaching in addition to
the moisture associated with a weak positive tilt trough centered
west-southwest of San Diego. Behind the front, there will be a
Punch of dry air. But right on the heels of that is a vort lobe
and associated QG forcing which will help recover the saturation
layers aloft and be a factor in the precip potential. CAPE is
looking to be quite modest and confidence in thunderstorms is too
low to reflect in the forecast just yet. That vort lobe feature
and the trough axis exits AZ late Saturday night. As an aside,
Tropical Storm Odalys will drift southwestward and slowly
dissipate and otherwise not be much of a factor.

Another low within the large scale trough over the West follows
right on the heels of the first one. It will initially
encounter some dry air in the mid and upper troposphere but lower
levels will be cooler and more moist. Also, the cold core digs a
bit further south to aid with precipitation efficiency in
additional to some modest moist advection that can be tapped into
by the main DivQ bullseye (better forcing just north of our area
though). For those reasons, it looks like the second system will
be a better precip producer than the first one. The timing of
precip chances looks to be Saturday night into Monday. There is
pretty good model agreement on the trough axis exiting AZ during
the day Monday. As is often the case, the best precip potential
for our forecast area will be over south-central AZ and in
particular the higher terrain. A lot uncertainty remains in the
QPF. NBM deterministic/mean guidance looks a bit high for the
lower elevations. WPC guidance is lower looks more reasonable. As
it stands now, the multiday forecast totals for the lower
elevations range from less than 1/10 up to 1/3 of an inch (same
for JTNP). Our higher terrain areas will generally range from 1/3
to 1 inch with some areas above 5000 ft in the 1 to 1.5 inch
range. Of course, this is all subject to change. December-like highs
in the 60s are anticipated Sunday and Monday. Lows on the deserts
will stay above freezing due to lingering clouds, humidity. Snow
accumulations look to be quite light and limited to areas above
5000 ft.

On Tuesday through Thursday, troughing lingers over the Western
states keeping temperatures from rebounding. There looks to be
only a subtle warming trend with highs in the upper 60s to around
70. Lows will be chilly with readings in the 30s and 40s on the
lower deserts. At this time, it appears that follow on systems
within in the large scale trough will stay far enough north so
that we stay dry.

.AVIATION...Updated at 0445Z.

South-Central Arizona including KPHX, KIWA, KSDL, and KDVT:

Elevated surface and low level gradients will support generally east
winds across the greater Phoenix area overnight tonight and into the
morning on Friday. Speeds generally 10kt or less. As we move into
the mid morning Friday expect winds to becoming more southeast
with potential for some gusts developing; most gusts would be
somewhere in the teens. By mid to late afternoon winds will shift
more to the south/southwest with continued potential for moderate
gusty conditions. As for sky cover, look for considerable
increase in mainly high clouds tonight with BKN-OVC decks aoa 20k
feet. Decks to gradually lower Friday with SCT-BKN decks dropping
to around 15k feet by late morning/early afternoon and closer to
10k feet by late Friday evening.

Probably the most significant aviation concern is the potential for
LLWS tonight, likely beginning by around 8pm and persisting most
of the night through about 10/12Z. Multiple model forecast
soundings continue to suggest a very elevated layer of southeast
winds up to around 40kt forming in the Phoenix area, down to the
2k foot level. Due to relatively high confidence, have continued
the mention of LLWS in the Phoenix area TAFs with the shear to
last longest at both KPHX and KIWA.

Southeast California/Southwest Arizona including KIPL and KBLH:

For tonight into Friday morning, winds should be on the light side
across the deserts, with light/variable wind reports common at the
TAF sites. That said, winds may tend to favor the west at KIPL and
the north/northeast at KBLH. As an upper level trof starts to
approach from the west later Friday, winds will increase and become
rather gusty at both TAF sites, favoring the southwest with gusts
over 20kt likely by 20-21z Friday afternoon. Due to gusty winds
there may be patchy blowing dust. As for sky cover, look for
considerable mainly high clouds tonight with BKN-OVC decks 20-
25k feet; there will be some lowering of cloud bases during the
day Friday but most decks should stay at or above 15k feet into
the evening.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Sunday through Thursday:
The second of two low pressure systems moves through Sunday-Monday
bringing a better chance of rain to the forecast area - mainly
Sunday night. The system will exit Arizona by late Monday. There
is potential for snow over the higher terrain but any
accumulations are expected to be light and confined to areas above
5000 ft. Breezy to windy conditions will continue on Sunday
followed by much lighter winds thereafter. Minimum humidities
during this time frame will be at their highest on Sunday with
readings in the 30-40% range for most areas (40-50% higher
terrain). There will be a steady decline thereafter with readings
reaching the teens by Wednesday. Expect a less dramatic dropoff in
Max RH values (remaining in the 40-50% range for most areas).
